I had verizon DSL when it was first offered in my area (around 1999). To be honest, I as really disappointed with the service.
Back then, it was more expensive, and it was only 640/128.
Also, they used this PPPoE software, and it didn't really work well with NT at the time.
If it's a dedicated line, why do I have to AUTHENTICATE to a server in order to use it? My cable modem is ALWAYS on... that stupid verizon service would "timeout" after a while, and I would be forced to "log in" to the authentication server. The damn server was down an AWFUL lot. Again, this 2as 5 years ago, so I'm sure it's better, but I wonder if they still use PPPoE and if you have to "login" in order to begin using the highspeed connection.
Incidentally, I'm not sure I'm sold on the "well, cable modems share bandwidth..." arguement. I mean, what do you think happens when you get into the central office?
