Amount of weight lost = amount going out - amount going in. Simple...Burn more calories (fat) than you take in each day. have you ever seen pictures of people in 3rd world countries who are dying of hunger? How many were fat?

If you're into low impact like I am, try working with free-weights. It's fun to do with killer music, and builds/tones muscle while working cardio and burning calories. :)

well, Im at about 275 right now, fairly muscular, but id like to get down a weight where I will actually be able to see the muscle

Just so you know, Im not a bowling ball, im 6'3'', 275. Id like to get down to around 200-215 range...that would be nice..so roughly 60-70lbs

yea man, I was in the same boat you were. 5'10" 250, but after lifting and doing cardio I got down to 200. I didnt take any suppliments or anything. Just lifted, cardio, and ate healthy. It was kinda hard not going for soda and the like, but i got used to it.

Also, my knee was pretty bad [hockey injury], but after I lost like 20 lbs, I found that I could run on it again.

Just don't give up on yourself when the results aren't speedy.

heh, i'm 6'3" and was probably close to 275 at my worst. yeah, running is out of the question. i got down to 200, and have gone back up to 210-215 by being a lazy ass.

i counted calories. if you eat 2000 a day, at your size you *will* lose weight (unless you have some legitimate medical problem, like a low thyroid)
i exercised on a nordic track ski machine. 45-60min a day, 5 days a week.
i lifted weights 2-3 times a week

eating right is at least 90% of it. there's no magic diet, there's no magic pill. if you are eating too many calories, nothing is going to make you lose weight.

i'd stay away from the scale, weigh yourself once a week at most. if you're losing much more than 2 lbs/week, it's too fast probably.

it's easy to say, but hard as hell to do... you need to change your diet and cut out as much junk as you can, for as long as you can. or course, need to couple that w/ exercise... but you get the point. and yeah, cut back on the soda, even if it just diet.

Its all about DIET and what I mean is not how much you eat but WHAT you eat. Its simple but true You are what you eat for the most part..
You find a nice balance of diet and working out and you will loose the fat.. Trust me, you need to arm yourself with the Know how.
Get some good books on diet and working out and READ them, and LIVE by them and you will loose weight.
Its not easy but it can be done.. and if you work real hard it will change your life.

Good Luck.

From what I've heard, diet soda makes you retain water. Try just drinking more water.

goober, don't eat just 2 pieces of bologna man, you're going to lose all that muscle you have. that's why i say don't go much lower than 2000 cal/day or lose much more than 2lbs/week. otherwise, your body will go into full-blown starvation mode and start burning a lot of muscle. as it is, you're going to lose some muscle (along with lots of fat), you don't want to make it worse. keep as much muscle as you can by lifting weights and eating a lot of protein while you keep calories low. the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism is going to be. patience is the key to making this work.

stuff i typically try to eat are lean meat (chicken, fish, lean beef), vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, etc. i'm not saying that's all i eat, but that's what makes up the bulk of my day to day diet. i think you just need to figure out what foods are hurting you the most, whether that be beer, donuts, bread, capt. crunch, ice cream or whatever, and reduce that first. count it up and you'll probably be surprised, i know i was.

check out misc.fitness.weights, there's some good information there if you're willing to sift through it.

I think the first thing I need to do is buy a nice new scale. I dunno why, but that will be cool. The old one I have is pretty crappy. The first diet thing I need to try is cutting out bread. My mom always tells me to watch my bread
