My evening news just had a report on phreaking...the woman said it's a "new way of stealing" -- little did she know phreakers have been around for more than 8,000 years. Whenever she said "phreaking" she sounded like she had a spoon up her ass...hahahaha, what a great segment. Wish I'd taped it:

These...phreak-- phreak--ers...are able to hijack your telephone line, says a representative from Bellsouth. Phreaking is being able to make a phone call on someone else's phone. What can you do about phreaking? Absolutely nothing. That's right, you'll never know if you're being phreaked.

Hahaha...yes, let me say it for you: nef. ;)

Obvious many people haven't heard of the legend of Cap'n Crunch. I'd say early 80's phreakers are the granddaddies of today's crackers.

hehe...yes, I'm ecstatic. Early cave paintings from Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc have shown primitive phreakers phreaking seashell-phones. LOL :D

One of the legendary phreaking stories is that of an engineer who discovered AT&T dial-tone codes whilst conincidentally blowing a whistle toy from a corn flakes box just before placing a phone call. If I'm not mistaken, his discovery eventually led to the development of "Blue box" technology.

Had a pal living in Brasil in the early 90's connecting every day to an ISP in the US using a blue box for MONTHS... Phone operators are much smarter today...

Anyways, also know of a guy in Holland that hasn't paid a dime on his phone bill for over a year...

Nothing can stop someone with a brain, a laptop and a handset.

Like I said in my first post, many people don't know the legend of Cap'n Crunch. That is why the number 2600 has such a great significance.

I still remember "Whistler" is the movie Sneakers. The story of Joe Engressia still brings a smile to my face. Imagine fooling technology that easily.
