They want to make us swallow this other lie. I just got their second apology. Funny, you can find one for $499. using Pricewatch. More lies from Dartek. You guys who begged everybody to let go and give Dartek a break, please wake up!!!! Their latest apology is LIES,LIES,LIES.

Mods, I guess you're gonna lock this thread.
However, I want to remind you that a lot of Ananders were led into this stunt. Most of them didn't have the apology yet. The fact that Dartek's second apology offers us to pay their cost for the card, which they claim is $487.78 is an insult to Anander's intelligence. They merit no respect from anybody and this forum should know about their latest lie. Just check prices with pricewatch and then you realize how low Dartek can go.

Shame on them!!!!!!!!!!!

It is possible that it is their cost, retailers dont make much..They make their money off the many not the few....Also I appreciate at least a second attempt at an apology....

Actually, more than likely that is their cost...

On PriceWatch you can find retailers selling products for cost (or slighly above). Usually where they make up for that is in huge shipping/handling charges. But sometimes they will sell products at cost to attract buyers to their site, where they sell other items at a larger markup.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge Dartek on this. Personally, I've bought from them many times in the past and had great service.

In any case, you don't have a leg to stand on here. Dartek owes you nothing.

I absolutely believe the cost of that card is $487. There's just no profit in hardware these days.

Yeah, they listed 120$ at the beginning, then more than 500$, then back to 120$, then more than 500$, then 487$. Oh, man, it seems that the computer is Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo smart to change it back and forth. The only reason---if they are not intended to do so---- is their computer system is hacked.

I know a guy who owns used to own his own hardware company until he sold it about a year ago. I have actually seen the company's name mentioned a time or two here in the past few weeks.

He told me that he would sell his hardware at or near cost and make his money on "rebates", which is money he would receive for selling certain quantities. Also, he said that suppliers would have terms where he would receive discounts if he paid within 30 days.

As far as Dartek, I couldn't see someone them getting the cards for $300 and making $250 from the card. If that was possible, I am in the wrong business (software development).

Here's my 2p...

If you seriously are looking for a decent deal on this card (aside from the previous $120 mistake), this is not a bad offer at all. A full $12 less than any listing on pricewatch (or a 2.2% discount if you prefer). Either way this, IMHO, is a warm deal.

For those seriously looking for this card at the cheapest price on the net right now: Click Here

Edit: Sorry to all those who knew better. I was just venting at all those people who were threatening to sue Dartek for not honoring the price. I know most Anandtechers are fully aware of the costs and know the risks of ordering a pricing error. Just ignore me! :)

I have news for all you know it alls. $487.78 is cost on this card.

Does anyone here even have a concept of retail cost structures?
Even at retail video cards are only marked up 15-20%.
Online the typical markup is only 3-5%. Prices listed on Pricewatch are sometimes listed below cost to lure you into buying. Then the dealer makes up the difference by tacking on an extra $10-$15 in shipping.

The fact is the wholesale price of this card is $487.78 from Ingram Micro. (Ingram Micro is the largest computer parts distributer in the world btw.) If you were a LARGE chain and bought in lots of 10,000 you might get them for $460 or so. That's it.

Furthermore for people who think that Dartek 'owes' them anything you need serious help. Everyone who ordered this knew it was a pricing error. If you got it, then great. But if you don't get it and you were never charged then just live with it! You were not harmed by the fact that you couldn't capitalize on this companies pricing error.

Do you honestly think a company is going to bankrupt itself to honor a price to people who never shopped with them before and only shopped with them to try to rip them off?

If you order something that is a pricing error and get it then good for you. If you order something that is a pricing error and don't get it and then threaten to sue then you need some help!

I would not be too surprised if the actual variable cost for the card were indeed $487.

Also, I would not be surprised even if they included their overhead and other fixed cost of running their business (ie. including the cost of warehousing, logistic, personnel, and so on).

Anyway, what I would advise to you all is

MOVE ON!!! IT'S JUST A VIDEO CARD!! NOT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE

BM555 - What does it matter to you anyway? Dartek owes you nothing. You should be thankful that they're giving you a discount on the card. It's better than you could do on Pricewatch. As my g/f says, "it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!"

Seriously though, Dartek has NOT charged anyone for the card so they don't owe you guys anything. Stop being a Ferengi bastard and let this drop!

Yep, I just had my roomate (who has a reseller's license) check around with distributers, and around $487 is cost. I can't believe some people think these things are marked up 200%. If I was paying twice what it cost for a reseller to purchase something, I'd simply use my roomate's reseller's license to buy from Ingram Micro and then resell everything I bought. BTW, it's not hard to get a reseller's license...all you need is a business name and Tax ID, which you can get for a small fee from your county clerk. It's really not worth it though, because most online retailers sell at or just above cost, and you can buy low quantities of items--many distributers require you to buy at least a certain amount of an item.

To sum it all up--BM555, you're a moron.
