Haha, unattended installs of XP are cool

I'm in the process of learning the proper organization, process and syntax for creating my own unattended installation of Windows XP. Essentially, when I'm finished with it, it'll go like this:

  1. Put XP CD in drive
  2. Choose partition sizes and locations
  3. Sit back while OS installs
  4. Once install is complete, first load of the Windows GUI will be accompanied by a window like this, and all my apps will be installed lickety-split.
  5. I'll be able to sit back, relax, and after 40 or so minutes, have a brand-new Windows installation that required absolutely no work on my part except a couple days worth of reading and learning how to set it up.

:)

EDIT: forgot to mention, the install is slipstreamed with SP2, and will install OfficeXP with the latest service packs/updates. :)

Default installs with all apps (SMS pushes) off of a server are even nicer.

I'm too poor for a server utilizing SMS pushes. :(

Maybe someday.

BTW, how's the job?

I am really enjoying it so far. Tonight I am working third shift and it will be the first time I am alone and in charge. :p

LOL, every time I see this I read it as "Unintended installs" and I think, "how do you install XP by accident?"

Ew, third shift...I worked second AND third shift on consecutive days (third shift Monday, second shift Tuesday) last summer. :(

I didn't know you could do this! it sounds really neat. Will all your programs fit on a CD with windows also? I thought windows XP by itself took quite a lot of CD space.

Before I start working on adding programs, I'll be stripping extra wallpapers, programs (MSN Messenger, MSN Explorer), screensavers, utilities, games, etc. from the base XP install.

The only thing I'm having trouble with is integrating my chipset INFs into the install (it's an Intel 845 chipset). I've already got my gigabit network drivers loaded though, so they'll install automatically.

If it doesn't all fit on one CD, I'll work on shrinking it down by removing extra programs.

I read about doing this a couple of months ago because I've had to reformat, install, and reinstall so many things for friends over the years. But it sounded slightly complicated so I said f it :D
