I got an e-mail from Superbiiz today advertising their " 'Genuine CPU Sale*' ...*All Processors Guaranteed to be Authentic!"

A low blow? I don't think so - I think it's a pretty humorous jab at a competitor, and I enjoy seeing businesses display a little humor. Sorry if this is the wrong subforum; I thought if I put it on off-topic no one might get the joke.

now, this would be a low blow: "buy your CPU from us -- because we don't sell rotten eggs!" :)

all we need now is someone getting a fake cpu from ewiz
that would put that commercial to real shame

i would honestly think ewiz double checked there inventory.

It only takes 2 seconds to look for the period in Hyper.Threading to see if the box is fake or not.

Not to mention the gross weight of the package.

LGA1366 sink is not small nor is it light.

who would have thought newegg, out of them all would be susceptible to such a blatant scam, you never know :p

of course I assume ewiz and newegg may have different supply chains plus the issue has really been out in the open for a few days, so I see how ewiz can be confident enough to put out an ad like that...

Newegg would be most likely, surely, since they have a high level of automation and a lot of stock.
Where better to put in fakes than somewhere that either won't check everything because there is so much to check, or won't have real people handling things, because it's all automated?

I would assume eWiz either checked their inventory, or just don't use the same supplier as the one which was busted.

yeah that makes total sense, I stand corrected.

they know exactly when to rub it in ... maybe the egg should start a 'back to genuine cpu sale' just to counter this.

eWiz is a good place :) Seems to be the retail front end of a large distributor that I use to order from.

So was the distributor in on the scam? Or did newegg just cut tyes with them to make it look good?

I've heard one theory that these were basically display models, used in promotional displays at conventions, etc. I'm not sure how credible this is, however, since there were all kinds of typos and misspellings on the box. You'd think if Intel were making display packages, they'd at least use packaging that didn't have typos on it.

Intel clarified they weren't demo boxes, check TPU for more info.

i'm just gonna say this is marketing BS, last i was aware of, ewiz was NOT an intel authorized channel either..
