I was blasting my music earlier since I didn't think anyone can actually hear me from my apt (It's a brick three story twin unit with large walls inbetween). Anyways, I barely exhausted my loudness capacity (-34db) and the people upstairs started jumping to let me know that the music was getting through. I loves my receiver and subwoofer lol.

Honestly, I don't understand the need to play music that loud. I enjoy music, and once in awhile a good song comes on where I will turn up the volume. But never have I had it so loud that it would ever cause a complaint.

I nightly hear my neighbors below me thump their bass. I repay them by playing Kinect Track & Field with my 400lbs buddy. Watching him do the hurdles is awesome.

I've heard that a lot lol.. It's probably like the ability to taste bitter... either you do or you don't. There's something relaxing about a room shaking with music imho.

Interesting. A good example of different strokes for different folks I suppose.

My neighbors below me throw a fit if I play my music at a volume audible from 20 feet away. So they can blow me.

If you want to play your music loud, get a house. If you live in an apartment and play music loud without any consideration for others, you're a douche bag.

Douche bagginess confirmed.

Agreed. If you turn things up every now and again, and at a reasonable hour, ok. But if you're ever playing music loudly enough that the "walls shake," you don't need to be living in an apartment.

People in apartments have no reason to own a subwoofer or to turn the volume above that of normal talking.

Your lucky that your place is that insulated in the first place. I can hear my neighbors do just about anything. Was awoken this morning to them fucking...at 2am in the morning. Actually the first time I've ever heard them do it so I guess it was about time, but it would have been nice not to wake up at 2am to that.

OP sounds like a douche. I like my subwoofer. I never use it when in an apartment. Such abuse makes me want to murder people.

I tend to assume that people who drive around or sit in their houses with shit rumbling all over have very little brain function.

When you are young and fresh out of college, apartment living is pretty much the only choice. I'm lucky enough to be in a concrete building so I can't hear my neighbors and they can't hear me, so I can turn my tunes up and enjoy guilt free.

I bought a 10" front firing subwoofer for my apt. My neighbour complained. So I returned the subwoofer.

Then I moved into a house a bought a bigass 13" subwoofer.

Start screaming things at the top of your lungs like "OH GOD GUYS, LOUDER... FASTER... MAKE HER SCREAM... C'MON, I'M ALMOST THERE! WHAT THE FUCK, DON'T STOP!"

Problem solved. ;)

LOL, I'll try to remember that for next time. I was too confused this time to do anything more than comprehend what was going on above.

Brilliant. I can't imagine anything more awkward than hearing a neighbor scream commands to multiple men to have sex more vigorously with an unknown woman. No one could possibly stand up to something that kinky.

"Guys" was directed at the couple (yes yes, I know one is female), but that comment just took it to a whole new level o_O

Is that right? Idk but it seems douchebaggy to jump the gun.... But that's just my very valid opinion. Hell I figure that the guy blasting music because he thought the place was sound deadening but turned it down upon complaint is less douchebaggy than some actual douche bag who assumes the first guy was doing it "without consideration for others". Hell I consider it asinine to put words in other people's mouth but that's just me...

I'm an audiophile and love higher end sound equipment. I will own a subwoofer regardless of my living situation but that doesn't mean it will be heard by other people. I ask my roomies if they can hear my shit and tune my volume according to that. In this particular instance no one else was home and I assumed that no neighbors would be able to hear it because of the building type and the fact that I never heard my neighbor's music before (I can hear their music if I am outside though).

If that is too much for you and you'd rather stick to your black and white thinking about who should and should not own a subwoofer then may Dick Cheney shoot you in the face multiple times.

Do you also enjoy movies, but see no need for a screen larger than 19"? :p
