a story of why Canada is weird :(

the game "Soldier of Fortune" was given an "Adult Movie" rating in Canada, effectively banning it from most everywhere because you need a special license to sell pr0n. so no average Software store has it. Hope nobody out there from Canada wanted that game(kinda sucked anyway) or you're in for a looooong polar bear ride to find it.

That was in B.C....only one province in Canada. And it was not banned. You just had to keep it in the back of the store where all the rest of the "adult" stuff was.

We should burn hundreds of copies of SOF, package them with serial numbers we generate, & air drop them to those poor deprived Canadian children.

Play your computer, kids, there are needy people in Canada who can't have Soldier of Fortune! Be grateful.

Yeah, like GL said that is only happening in BC because the AG wants to make a law that will force game makers to clean up there act on violence in video games. You can still get the game, you just can't display it in general view. I think that the software publishers are going to appeal.

Cheers,

If Gore-Lieberman win, this could very well happen in the U.S. Lieberman is "that same idiot who blamed Doom for the Colubine high school massacre". Another reason to vote this fall :p

More damn stupid yankees who don't know diddly squad about canada.

I could laugh at your country about your stupid NC-17 (aka the kiss of death) rating for movies.

And, no, no canadian I've very met says "aboot" instead of "about". Though I've seen plenty of american hicks saying route as "rouwt" with and "ow" instead of "root" with an "ooo"

But I still enjoy South Park.

Idiots.

Wow, settle down there :p

And, no, no canadian I've very met says "aboot" instead of "about".

I've met plenty of Canadians that have say "aboot". Nothing to get all pissed off about.

The NC-17 rating has to do with moviemakers greed more than anything else. Moviegoers here in the U.S. are mostly under 17, so making a movie that forbids 17 year olds is obviously a non-proftitable move. The movie studios here think that if the NC-17 rating is renamed something "more politically correct", that would somehow enhance their profits from sleazy hard-core porn films, but renaming "X" movies "NC-17" didn't make any difference and I doubt this will :p

Idiots.

You need to stop living in igloos and riding polar bears to work every day. You're getting to be a real @sshole :p

LMAO.

We can get that game, and even if we couldn't, what's the big deal about it? :D

My god is it ever ludicrous to watch patriotic Canadians and Americans bitch back and forth at each other! Everybody has their faults, and their strong points, misinterpretations, blah blah blah blah! We don't live in igloos, I haven't heard people say "aboot", yay, but Americans don't say that we say "aboot" for nothing, they obviously heard a Canadian say it!!

But anyway, I enjoy these threads, they're funny ;)

The B.C. thing worries me. And we were once such a liberal country, wary of imposing our morals upon our fellow citizens. I'd love to see them try to do the same over here in Ontario, though. We'd have to organize a rally at Epic HQ and from there march on f*cking Parliament.

Well, okay, maybe we'll just write some indignant e-mails.

By the way, I've never heard a Canadian say "aboot". I live in the most populous city in Canada (Toronto). 'Nuff said. :)

BTW, I have never heard someone say "aboot" and I live in Canada. :p

I'm not gonna deny us using the ocassional "eh" but it's better than "huh?" or "whaaa??"

Haha, I remember reading about this while ago. Some Canadian official said that the game was "pornographic." And I've heard plenty of Canadians say aboot or whatever, although it sounds more like a-boat.

Please direct your attention to http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=route.

Notice in the pronunciation key...it can either be pronounced "ROOT" our "ROWT." Please get your facts straight before posting again.

hehe, did he really think football announcers all across America could be wrong? Boy would that sound funny if it was only pronounced root, "Smith ran an up and out root..."

That sums up this whole stupid debate. OH YES, we are polite, but piss us off and we will beat you silly like the little weaklings you southerners are
>>

actually those commercials are the reason i think Canadians are so weird.
"I AM CANADIAN"
so what? i am american. Canada is probably a fine place to live, and i hear there's lots of hot asian girls there, but showing a beer commercial to represent yourself is kind of an american redneck thing to do.

In Canada we tend to frown on violence, whereas in the US you can't even show tits on primetime network television. The bottom line is, from the Canadian point of view, sex is healthy and violence isn't.

I see nothing wrong with rating a very violent game as 'access-restricted as long as they don't rate a very violent gasm the same way.

Funny thing is, BC is the most American-like Canadian province, even worse than Alberta. ;)

Meh, Americans pronounce things weird to Canadians... Canadians pronounce things weird to Americans... nobody's right... nobody's wrong.

Living in Toronto, you hear 10 million different pronunciations of every word in the book, so I'm kinda used to it.

Heh, Americans are NOTHING compared to overseas immigrants :) They so craaaazeh!
Pull into the Gas Station,
Indian Guy says: "What would you like?"
Driver says: "Fillerup"
Indian Guy says "Do you speak English?"
Driver says: "Yes, Fill-er-up."
Indian Guy says: "DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH!?!"

True story... happened 2 weeks ago. I found it amusing.
