Haha, our security cameras are useless

So an employee's suv got broken into yesterday and the overhead lcd/dvd player was stolen. I'm willing to bet someone has been staking out her suv for awhile because I can't see how someone will know that she has one installed.

Anyways one of the weakest point in our system is that we don't have anyone actively monitoring the cameras. It's only when something happens that we go back and review the tapes. Secondly the cameras that overlook our parking lot sucks. They only record if movement is detected so someone walking way in the back of the lot will not even trigger the camera. When it does capature something the quality is pretty bad so you can't make out a face or read a license plate number. What good is it if all you can make out is that a white van entered the lot, drove once around and left. Yea, that's really going to narrow down all the hundreds of white vans in the area.

So pretty much we couldn't find anything that was helpful on the tapes. A chick had her suv stolen right out of our lot awhile back and we found nothing useful either.

Found this out myself too - Folks next door had there bucket truck stolen (think cherry picker) - our security system showed a beige chevy avalanche in broad daylight. The motion detection was pretty bad and the resolution so poor that you can only tell a gang member got out of the avalanche and talked on his phone. When he got back inside and went to where the bucket truck was (presumably to break into it, dunno) - motion basically stops and you can't actually see the truck drive off. It's just gone in the next set of motion, not a though it would help - being so pixelly and unsharp.

How do you know he is American and not an immigrant?

No, they were probably not "staking it out" (WTF you think this is the movies?) they probably looked inside and saw it open or saw wires going to it. About ALL crimes are about opportunity. If they see it it is gone.

However the white van is actually just people selling low grade speakers with fancy names in the parking lot.

It would be nice if you can install an anti-theft bomb in your car that gets triggered if somebody tries to break into your car.

You mean you can't zoom and sharpen the image to make out the plate or even a fingerprint? 😱

Have you tried typing "Enhance" with a keyboard?

This always works for me when my friends come find me about some obscure crime when the top crimelab in the nation can't get anymore out of it.

This ^^. It especially works in a place of law enforcement.
