Rather than take a 3.5 hour bus ride around the mountains in Costa Rica (we did it last year, made me nauseous as hell), were taking a plane this year, 20 minute flight...

San Jose ---> Quepos

Sweet. You know your in Costa Rica when.... The airport terminal has a thatched roof.

Flew into something similar on one of the Hawaiian islands about 15 years ago. Terminal had a thatched roof with a diner inside. Baggage claim area was an open air chickee with wooden bins for luggage. Primative but nicer than a huge terminal.
