Had to unplug the NB fan on my KG7...

It has been making an awful "grinding" noise lately and it usually dies down after a while but today it just seemed to be getting louder and louder so I unplugged the damn thing...can I assume that Abit put the fan on for overclockers? Am I safe to run with just the heatsink if I am only at default 133Mhz FSB? I have contacted Abit for a replacement, I wonder what the chances of that are?

Thanks

Chipset fans= cheapo marketing junque. Lots of boards have the same chipset with only a sink, no fan. Might want to remove the fan entirely to allow for better airflow, or buy a zalman sink kit from 2cooltek if you want to go all-out.... no worries or maintenance there....

It's a fairly common problem- I suspect lots of people just let 'em die, thank their lucky stars that the annoying noise has ended, keep on goin'.

Well, a HSF on the NB definately helps air flow especially when ocing the fsb high but will you die without it? No🙂
