I had my wisdom teeth (all four) extracted today at 9:30 a.m. Before they put an I.V. in my arm, they put a mask with nitrous oxide over my nose, and after that, I'm totally amnesic until I woke up about 45 minutes later. But once I woke up, I felt GREAT! My mom said I was talking a mile a minute, and I called my girlfriend and my sister on the way home - they both said I sounded happy as a clam! I felt like I was just talking normally and saying everyday things.
I took a whole pill of Vicodin at about 1:45 (that's the recommended dosage) and went to bed...I slept 'till about four, and when I got up, I felt REALLY really tired. I went into the bathroom and I had to pee really bad because I had water, jello and a milkshake when I first got home and I didn't go to the bathroom before my nap. So anyway, I was in the bathroom, and I had just finished peeing, and right before I flushed, the corners of my vision started to go black, which sometimes happens right when I get up from sleeping, so I thought it was normal. But then, it kept getting darker, and I couldn't see anything, but I felt like I was falling, so I grabbed onto the bathroom counter. I sort of collapsed onto the floor of the bathroom, and I felt really really nauseous, but I knew that throwing up would be horrible for my wounds so I started breathing in and out really deep and I called my parents up.
Basically, I fainted in the bathroom, but I didn't throw up. My dad (a doctor) said that it's probably because a) I hadn't had any solid food all day, b) the anesthetic was still in my bloodstream from this morning and c) I had narcotics in my system and d) here's an actual condition where males will temporarily lose consciousness after emptying a full bladder...it has some long, complicated name. So it was a combination of things, not just the Vicodin most likely. And coincidentally, when he had his wisdom teeth out, he fainted in the bathroom too! Like father like son I guess.
So, I'm fine and I didn't hit my head or anything serious, but that was the first time I ever fainted, and combined with the nausea, it was definitely and completely the WORST feeling I've ever had - I felt like I was either going to lose consciousness or throw up, or both!
But I feel great now! I ate dinner with my parents (mashed potatoes, sloppy joe and cottage cheese), and I had a milkshake for dessert, and I feel great! The pain is much less severe than I thought it would be and I will probably just take two advil before I go to bed tonight.
Swelling is not bad at all (but we'll see what I look like tomorrow! :Q) and I can hopefully go back to my place tomorrow. The weekend is a total wash in terms of social activity, but I'm just glad that I finally had this done, and that the pain isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Cliff's Notes:
1) Had wisdom teeth out
2) Took Vicodin
3) Fainted after peeing
4) Feels great now
5) Pain less than expected
<-- Is happy that his other 28 teeth are able to stretch out and relax a little more now.
