They asked me time and time again about metal in my body. I pulled out a body piercing, but forgot about the vasectomy I had a few years back where I had metal staples put in.

Didnt even cross my mind until I ran across this page and saw how powerful the magnets really are. :Q
I'm glad nothing bad happened, maybe they were stainless steel staples?? :Q

Oh yeah, holding perfectly still for 45 minutes is harder than you might imagine.

Bah, I just got earplugs, I wish there was some type of music.

Wow, you got lucky. But isn't almost all common medical grade metal stainless?

Thoes MRI machines pull garbage cans into them from across the room. They have to be very careful about that.

Yeah, I read about this kid last year who was in an MRI and someone had accidentally left a steel oxygen cylinder in the room (they usually leave carbon fiber ones in the MRI rooms).

Kid was killed by the flying cylinder when they turned the MRI on.

I had an MRI in January. I thought the whole experience quite nice. They gave me these comfortable pajamas and the headphones. The station was 98KUPD and I had taken some Vicodin earlier in the day for a migraine. I fell asleep and felt noticeably better afterward. Luckily what I was testing for, seizures and other such things which could effect someone's brain to give them migraines, turned out to be negative. Now the EEG, that was unpleasant because of the conductive adhesive.

I've had three all at an open mri place, minimal noise, picked any radio station, looked like my living room, still not moving for 45 mins is horrible.

They were doing my head for severe (induced by physical exertion) headaches I have been having the last 2 weeks or so. Wont get any results for a day or so when I get back to see the doctor.

Overall the experience wasnt bad at all, they put a cloth over my eyes to help with claustrophobia. I drifted off into neverland a time or two, but was woken up by the guy giving me a shot.

I had one done (they thought I had a pitaturary gland tumor turned out to be diabetes) was not bad but COLD. They gave me a nice comfy pajama and 3 lovely women did the exam. Later when I changed I noticed that the crotch of the pj was wide open to public viewing  :Q

I want an MRI to see what the heck my insides look like. The research I do @ UT Southwestern involves doing MRI on chronic cocaine abusers and measuring ejection fraction of the heart and all that jazz, and it's so cool to watch the heart beat in real time on those monitors. The subjects get paid $200 for laying there for 45 minutes listening to soothing music while being driven to the school from the VA in those presidential lincoln town cars or whatever they are. On the other hand... how much did they bill you for your MRIs? When I asked how much all the equipment costs, they said $3 million including software!

My wife had an MRI to find out what was up with her back.

The images they produced are pretty freaking cool. It's like a 3d picture of your muscles and bone. Very bizzare, but very neat. Not sure what an MRI of your brain would look like. I'm sure it's a bit different than what they use on deep tissue and bone.

The guy let my wife and I (I showed my wife just to verify that I had a functioning brain :p) look at the images. It was really cool to see 1mm thick cross sections of your own brain/head that were 30 minutes old. You can see your eyeballs along with all those connecting tissues, sinus cavities, all the different lobes of your brain and even your spinal cord where it comes up and attaches.

I wish they would let me have copies, I would post some for all you guys to see :) He said they are stored on "optical disc", which I assume is a CD-R. You can check them out for free, and I could bring it home and burn a copy.

The one for my head was about $1200, and insurance will cover most of it. I wish I could have gotten paid to lay there instead of the other way around.

Which part of your body did you have MRIed? ;) I had to MRI my ankle after a football injury a couple of years ago. 15 minutes into the 30 minute procedure my knee started itching like crazy and my leg started going numb. The next 15 minutes were hell...
