Had Long John Silvers for dinner tonight

Just had Long John Silvers tonight. Let's just say, I was underwhelmed. I haven't had this in about a year and was in the mood for fish tonight (around 9:30). THis is one of those places where they have LJS and Taco Bell in the same store. So I ordered this new Alaskan Flounder they have.

From the minute I walked in there I had a bad feeling about it. It looked like they were just a bunch of kids all laughing and giggling in the kitchen. The cash register was unmanned. There was a kid out in the restaurant area talking and laughing out loud to a customer. He finally came up to the register after I was standing there for about a minute. After I placed my order this guy went back into the kitchen and was chatting and laughing with the guys who were boxing up the food. It looked like there were a copule of guys preparing the food and a few guys who were roaming around distracting the other workers. Anyway, it didn't look like there was any supervision here.

Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with a little chit-chat with co-workers but, when they are acting like the kitchen is an amusement park it makes me nervous about how they're going to treat the food that they're cooking for me to eat. I should have went with my gut in this case.

When I got my order home (10 minutes later) and opened it I was unimpressed. The fish had been way overcooked. it was dark brown around the edges. So I went ahead and ate the hashbrowns and cole slaw. Then I decided to eat the fish anyway (was hungry). This "fish" if you can call it that was like crunchy rubber. I do not exaggerate when I say I had to bite off a piece and chew it for over a minute before swallowing.

It will be a looooooong time before I enter another LJS or Taco Bell. I went to their site and left a note detailing this experience. Either this store needs to get new management or they need to get some kids in there who take their job more seriously.

Got fish at LJS
Wasn't expecting a gourmet meal but, fish was overcooked, rubbery and overall nasty
workers there were like clowns with no supervision
no more LJS for me :p

You poor bastard. For some reason I feel the compulsion to eat there about once a year, though.
I get the chicken.

Chicken is all I ever get too. I always gotta get some extra crumbs also.

It's not too bad if its prepared right. Simply frozen white fish placed ina deep fryer. Like any frozen fish bought at a grocery store.

Clams & hushpuppies are always tasty there.

Eh, what do you really expect from a 17 year old kid getting paid 6.00 an hour to man a gross kitchen all day.

One of the no-brainer rules of life: Never NEVER eat fast food fish. NEVER.

maybe they took some flounder to alaska, threw them in the water, then caught them in a net and flew them back to their fast food chains.

That would be the only possibility because I guarantee you there isn't a single restaurant in AK with "Alaskan Flounder" on the menu. Halibut, you bet. Sole... yup. Flounder?

Never set foot in there. Never will. Unless I'm high. The two have not coincided...yet.

Even from a distance that place looks nasty.

But they have a bell you can ring on your way out!

Did you enjoy all the sodium in the LJS "food"? Admittedly I like eating their once in awhile but I feel like crap afterwards and super thirsty--not to mention my blood pressure goes up by about 10-15 points after eating there.

My top ghetto food trips, which are only about once a year, are:

Church's Chicken
Popeye's
Long John Silvers

Does anyone but me notice that you almost always have to go to the ghetto to find one of them?

They should seriously consider a rib joint, complete with fresh cut watermellon, in those hoods. ;)

I love LJS.

I can eat like 3 pieces of fish, 1 or 2 chicken, 6-10 hushpuppies, some fried clams, coleslaw all in sitting it's so good.

Of course I used to only go 4/year. It's been a few years since I've been in one, but talking about it makes me hungry!

Whenever i get LJS everything always tastes the same. I used to think every single dish was put in that basket and dumped in the deep fryer except the soda. I guess i forgot about the cole slaw. Plus the chicken had the texture of high density foam - like the whole piece was homogeneous thoughout.
