I went to a big-box store today to check out some clothes over lunch. I wasn't way from my car for more then 15 minutes, when I was on my way back. I saw a 2000 (or so) green jeep cherokee sitting beside my car running. No big deal. Got to my car, unlocked the door as I normally do with the remote and opened it up. I saw a bunch of snow in the car and thought, WTF? looked up and my head unit was jacked, along with my radar detector from the glove box. The Jeep was still just pulling away, so I chased after it hopeing to catch it, or at least get the plate #. Lucky me, the plate was covered with snow.

Anyway, my door seems to work fine, and it seems to lock properly with the remote. How long can I go before I need to fix it? At this point biggest problem might be water getting in the door. Any other issues? I probably won't get a new head unit for a while. (might try and put old factory deck back in) and wont have anything of much value in the cabin.

Rough guess on lock repair/body work/paint? Edit: Its an 2002 Civic EX.

I would fix it sooner rather than later because now it's an open invitation to thieves. Doesn't matter if you don't have anything of value in there anymore because next time they'll just take the whole damned car.

Ghetto job where paint is not blended $400-500
Pro job $800-$1200

These are local rates at $80/hr for body work and paint labor. If your local rates are lower expect lower.

In most BMW or MERCEDES if you open the car like that the alarm wont sound.
You have to get it programmed so it will.

So I take it if those high end car manf. have that stupid rule, then most other car companies have it as well.

Whoever did this knew what they were doing

That needs more than paint.
