My idea is this, make a chip in all future cameras that pings every few seconds in a movie theater over a wifi like (not actual wifi but a special network for this purpose) the pings can be picked up by a special router which shows which room the pings are coming from then the staff could search the room with a device that pinpoints the pings and exposes the pirate.
Just a thought.
The camera would not ping anymore if it doesn't receive a ping back from the router.

No, just no.

I don't know why anybody would actually want to watch those movies recorded in the theater anyway. Quality is rubbish. If you want to pirate it that badly, just wait for the DVD/BD release and torrent a rip.

Most telesync's come from overseas and are of horrible quality. Camera shaking, poor audio, lots of background noise and hardcoded foreign subtitles. Most movies wind up on dvd in 3-4 mos from theatrical release.

Most good quality rips are from preview copies sent out. Not too many people bother watching cam rips anymore.

What the other have said. You can do all the pinging you want, all of the movies are now 100% copies of critic review version of the movie not available for release.

Cam rips are soooo 1970s

So the pirate uses a camera that does not ping.

Seriously, trusting the end user is no security at all.

Much like the "War on Drugs", the "War on Piracy" is a war that simply cannot be won. Let's just say "fuck it" already.

Agreed. It's not winnable. People who choose a pirated version likely would never buy the product anyway or find little value in it. Like games, many movies just are not worth much more than a red box rental anyway.

Yea, you can go to Viooz and stream movies galore, even one's still in theatrical release, IDK how a site like that avoids the law but their still up and streaming 24/7.

Oh, OK, that makes sense, I guess it's "digital anarchy" these days LOL. In any event none of the streamers are of great quality, if I want to own a film I have no problem buying the Blu-ray version, it makes no sense to have a decent flat-screen and watch crappy, compressed streams on it, kind of like owning a sports car and running re-cap tires on it LOL..

They should just make all movies 3d so you can't record it. I guess you can put the glasses in front of the camera, but that would look to obvious

Wow!! Perfect plan!!! Because of course it would be impossible to manufacture a camera without the anti-piracy chip, remove/disable the chip or record a movie with a current generation camera. You've beaten piracy!!!

Instead of trying to fight the fact that times have changed, the movie/music industry, like any other industry would, needs to simply keep up with the times.

Imagine if the vacuum tube industry had the power the MPAA/RIAA has today and had decided to make transistors illegal and start a war against them just so they can stay in business.

Instead they decided to get into the transistor and semiconductor industry (I would imagine) or else they went bankrupt. Things change, companies need to keep up with what people want if they want to stay in business. It's really that simple. People want downloadable movies they can store on their media centres. Instead of fighting that, why not just give it to them in the same format available in torrents. Compete with your competition, don't start wars with them.

It's not a big enough problem to force the camera industry to put that technology into cameras. The serious pirates would find a way to disable that functionality anyway. All it would do is drive up the price of cameras and reduce battery life for normal users.

That idea is dumb. All you would have to do is wrap teh camera in anti-ping foil

or you could just have a copy of the movie on blu ray for sale by the exit, that you can purchase on your way out the door.

Awesome!! Then everyone can download a good blu-ray rip the day the movie hits theaters instead of waiting for months.
