had a virus

I run anti-vir, have some sort of trojen, I'm running an app which lists my drives and their free space on my desktop. When I start to do a system scan with Anti-Vir, I can watch the space on my C drive drop every second or so. I have a bit over 4 gigs free, but if I let the scanner go it will keep dropping until I run out of space. This only takes a few minutes to happen max.

I've never seen a virus do this, I'm not sure if it was the virus or Anti-Vir though. Has anyone else ever encountered this? Basically I couldn't finish the scan because of this. I ended up booting into safe mode and got my box clean. But I'm curious as to why this happened, seen a lot of weird stuff from spyware/trojens but this was a first.

yeah I ended up cleaning it up in safe mode, I'm just trying to figure out if there is a virus that can eat up disk space while it's in memory and you're scanning. I went from 4 gigs, to 120megs in about 45 seconds. And nothing else was running. I rebooted and did various things differently and every time the disk space would drop every second I was scanning. *shrug* Whatever virus it was it was pretty nasty, it added files to zips/rar's on my HD. I noticed a couple I made last year had an 07 creation date. And when I opened them up, sure enough Anti-Vir detected a unknown trojen.
