Last month my son, who is 7 and in the 1st grade, placed 4th in his school's science fair. Pretty damn good considering there were 37 1st grade entries.
Today we went to the Coastal Bend Science Fair where the winners from all around the coastal bend area were invited to participate. I believe there ended up being a total of 750 entries from grades K through 7. My son did not place in this competition, but just the fact that he was invited and to see the pride on his face at being there was just as good as receiving any medal.
This might not seem like a big deal to some, may be one of those "have to have kids to appreciate" things. I am beeming with pride right now. He placed the red ribbon he received from this event up on his awards shelf when we got home.
This year alone he has earned 5 different awards/trophies in school. Mostly from excellerated reading, computer skills (hmmm...wonder where he got that from), and etc..
If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be married and have children today, I would have told you that you were f@king crazy!
