I literally don't understand the kind of thinking that leads people to binge on garbage food. I stand in line at the grocery store and silently judge the person before and after me. I guess I see junk food (cheatos, cookies, cake) the way my dog sees a carrot: "I'm not the sort of animal that eats things like that."

I don't know what kind of dog you have, but every one I've owned would eat just about anything.

Yeah, that's what I do too, just do my best to estimate it and pad with extra calories to be sure.

I think I'm going to start some kind of weekly journal thread to track what I eat on Thursdays. Sounds a bit odd, but Thursdays are my real challenge as I go sailing and then usually out somewhere with the rest of the crew from the boat, and everyone else is drinking and eating.

Maybe if I know that I'm going to have to come back here and confess everything I've eaten I will stay more in control :p

Do what I do in this forum and write down what you eat.

Helps me tremendously in keeping track and showing restraint when I have to write about it later.

Or take pictures of every meal, and send it to all your friends.
They'll tell you off, when the serving is too big :D

For me it's chocolate - I get strong chocolate cravings. And my willpower is weak enough that once I get started binging, it's hard to stop. I am definitely a binger and have to overcome that to eat healthier. My wife has healthy cravings ("oooh, I'd really love some asparagus right now") and I'm kinda jealous of that.

I'm bad with chips. So bad that I can't even have them in the house anymore.

Once I eat 1 chip I usually finish off the bag or close to it.

I am not a big sweets or junk food guy, unless it comes to soda. I can't buy soda in large quantities. I can drink 8 from a 12 pack before I realize I've done it. My biggest problem is portion control. I am a big eater.

It's funny how different people are. I can barely make it through a can of soda, my weakness is salty, fatty, sugary foods.

I don't care much for soda or sweets or salty food. My weakness is fvcking carb.

Croissant, bagel, curry with rice, spicy tofu, udon, all delicious noodles, all kinds of rice dishes, PASTA! etc..

EVERYTHING is CARB. It's quite annoying.

Me too. Except I love soda, too, but have an easier time staying off of it. I had one of those big bags of Cheetos Puffs yesterday afternoon while we watched Rise of the Guardians. The girls and the wife got Chips Ahoy! chocolate chip cookies and Mini-Oreos. I didn't touch them. But I did have one of those ice cream sandwiches made with two chocolate chip cookies with chocolate chips around the outside of the ice cream. The ones where there are no chocolate chips around the outside are just plain wrong.

This thread is making me hungry now haha.

Luckily all I have access to at the moment is a protein bar.

Couldn't agree more.

I haven't had one of those in at least 10 years, but I think when I had them the brand was "Chipwich".

Yeah chipwich and choco taco's were my favorite. From 14-16 I worked for a friend of the family stocking ice cream trucks...he owned the company and it was across the street from where I grew up.

I used to be able to buy Choco Tacos and Chipwiches by the case from him when big shipments came in.

Man those are good.

Mussels came and it was a huge portion. I should have just eaten half or something but I didn't, and driving home I realized that I was probably over my calorie budget and I didn't know by how much, so I said "ahh fuck it, it'll be a cheat day" and the binge was on.
It's unfortunate, but I do the same thing. I saw some study recently that said about 10% of people have this idea of "if I already messed up today let's binge like a mother". I guess we are in that 10%, though frankly I bet it's much higher than that.
Finally put a stop to it. I ended up charging myself 2500 calories for the binge, so it'll take a couple days to undo that with diet. The amazing thing is I could have easily eaten another 4,000-5,000 calories. I was still hungry.
My maintenance is about 3000 calories. If I eat comfortably--what I want, without trying to get fat--I need at least 3500 calories/day. On a good cheat day I can easily do 4500-5000.
I always forget this, but man, it's so hard when you're out with a bunch of friends at a bar/restaurant to say "no, that's okay, I'm just going to have some water."
It's damn near impossible, very, very hard. This is why when I am dieting I don't even do cheat days now because I find it's easy to turn one cheat day into two and then I'm off the wagon for two months. Also why when I am trying to lose weight I do it hard and diligently. Even a single cookie is like a sniff of coke to an addict for me, so I just stay away from all of it.

I imagine I have some psychological thing with food--but then really in our society that puts me in good company with most of the population. I've been in good shape most of my life but it's been a constant battle. It is for a lot of people, I just have never given up on it so I don't look like a typical overweight and/or obese person.

I'm currently on the longest streak I've done in almost two decades. I am tracking everything on fitday. The problem in the past is I get cocky. After 10 days it's not so bad so I think meh I can have a few cookies or whatever and then that's it. Now I continually remind myself that the second I slack off I'm as much as embracing a few weeks of pig fest.

I AM A CARB MONSTER. I AM A FILTHY WHORE EXCEPT FOR CARBS. I can molest, abuse, and humiliate a box of anything with carbs. Beat down a box of animal crackers like I hate them, chow down on cookies as if I'm making a grand a pop. For me it's all carbs, all the time. When I have a belly full of bread it's as if the stars have aligned and the world was designed entirely for my pleasure, it's the best.
