Had a binge last night

Went sailing with the club and then went back to the clubhouse and had a beer. That was supposed to be it.

But then a small group invited me to go out with them to a gastro pub. I went and figured I'd just order a beer and mussles, shouldn't be too many calories, though it would be hard to measure.

Mussels came and it was a huge portion. I should have just eaten half or something but I didn't, and driving home I realized that I was probably over my calorie budget and I didn't know by how much, so I said "ahh fuck it, it'll be a cheat day" and the binge was on. Stopped at 7-11 and picked up a glazed pie (500 cal.) and a small bag of chips (270 cal.) Once home I ate the pie and chips, several handfulls of peanuts, and a couple of spoonfulls of peanut butter (that's the closest thing I have to junk food in the house, lol).

Finally put a stop to it. I ended up charging myself 2500 calories for the binge, so it'll take a couple days to undo that with diet. The amazing thing is I could have easily eaten another 4,000-5,000 calories. I was still hungry.

In 3 months of dieting its only my second binge but I really need to watch it because now that the warm weather is here I'm going to out on the town a lot more so it will be harder.

I always forget this, but man, it's so hard when you're out with a bunch of friends at a bar/restaurant to say "no, that's okay, I'm just going to have some water."

If it makes you feel any better, last night after I finished a big bowl of chili with cheese and rice I went out and bought a bag of cheetos since I couldn't find those new test flavors of Lay's, atehalf the bag then ate 5 Samoas cookies (my daughter is a girl scout) with two glasses of milk. I'm cheating the rest of the weekend, too. Monday I'll be back on a strict diet again.

I'm hoping to do some KFC boneless stuff and that Pizza Hut cheese crust pizza before the end of the weekend.

Consider it a refeed day. If you aren't incorporating refeeds into your diet protocol, I highly recommend you look into it. 1 step back and 2 steps forward. Don't be surprised if you step on the scale tomorrow and drop 2 lbs

Is this a typical cycle for you? Eat well for thirty days so that you can pig out for a week? Remember that you only lost 13 pounds in 30 days. According to your Whole 30 thread, Your goal was to lose as much fat as possible before trying to add more lean mass. You plan this week doesn't seem to fit very well with that goal.

I don't really have a typical cycle. I usually eat a paleo style diet during the week and then have a cheat meal or two on the weekends. So the whole 30 was an attempt to see where I could get with no cheating. I'm going to cheat this week and then attempt another one to see where I can get after that.

Who deemed you the diet nazi? If you want to criticize his plan, do it in the appropriate thread.

Personally, I try not to binge as it's an easy habit for me to get into. Instead, I have regular, very controlled treats to take the edge off. Usually that's a small popsicle most days, eat out once a week (usually somewhat healthy), and ice cream once a week. If I binge, I can easily hit 4k-5k calories and then I'll be craving all that nasty food for another week or two.

Yeah, that's why I'm staying away from Five Guys. I usually get their bacon cheeseburger (which has two patties) with everything and a regular cajun fries, which from another thread was calculated at 1500 calories I think.

Luckily, a bunch of people from my gym are doing a 30 day paleo challenge so I'll be partaking in that starting next week.

To be honest, I'd go to In 'N' Out if you have them available where you live. The double double is a little less than 700cal and I share fries with my girlfriend usually, which makes my portion about 200cal. Overall 900cal for a meal is pretty standard for me so I don't freak out about it. Five Guys is notoriously greasy and fatty.

wont help him get there.

You can easily binge and stay paleo. Get whatever you want at Five Guys and throw away the bun, and stay away from the french fries. Eat your toppings with a fork. It just seems odd to me that somebody will eat stict paleo for a month... but stay away from a burger joint while stuffing themselves full of breaded chicken, deef fried potato chips, cookies and pizza.

I've got the opposite problem when it comes to really greasy food. I feel awful after about an hour and definitely don't want to touch anymore of it for a few days.

I think that's a west coast phenomenon as I haven't seen any around here.

Five Guys is notoriously greasy and fatty.

Two of my favorite food groups.

If a 1 week binge gives me the drive I need to be strict for 30 days doesn't that help me get there?

I guess we have different definitions for binges. To me, a binge has no rules.

You're right, and I'm sorry. I just didn't want to see your total caloric deficit for 30 days made up for in a week. Enjoy your binge!

If I do a cheat day, I go big. I hit up Fogo de Chao.I can't even begin to calculate how much total calories I consume on those days. But I am quite a big eater. I seriously think I could break 20 hotdogs in 12 minutes.

Heh, and I was getting guilt tripped over my 1.5Mcal pizza lunch today :D

Suddenly it doesn't feel so bad anymore.
Also helps, that aside from a glass of coke, a glass of OJ and a caramel cookie, I've not eaten anything else today.

I think a banana will do, to hit around 2Mcals for the day.

4Mcals sounds pretty scary :awe:

I can't even begin to describe how ridiculously awesome this place is.

So how's everybody feeling today?
:p

Pretty damn good actually. Yesterday I stuck to the diet and came in under my budget of 1767 calories, I also lifted and progressed on the squat, press, and deadlift. Today I'll be sticking to the diet again, so I feel like I'm back on track.

I went to a wedding last night and blew my weekly caloric intake. Events like this throw me off though.

It's also tough when you don't even know how to log what you are eating, because you aren't sure of the portion sizes, or aren't keeping track.

Today I was back on schedule though.

I just logged myself over 1000 calories to pad it, since I had a few sodas and a ton of appetizers.

Yeah, that's what I do too, just do my best to estimate it and pad with extra calories to be sure.

I think I'm going to start some kind of weekly journal thread to track what I eat on Thursdays. Sounds a bit odd, but Thursdays are my real challenge as I go sailing and then usually out somewhere with the rest of the crew from the boat, and everyone else is drinking and eating.

Maybe if I know that I'm going to have to come back here and confess everything I've eaten I will stay more in control :p

I literally don't understand the kind of thinking that leads people to binge on garbage food. I stand in line at the grocery store and silently judge the person before and after me. I guess I see junk food (cheatos, cookies, cake) the way my dog sees a carrot: "I'm not the sort of animal that eats things like that."
