Had a bad IT interview

I went through a 5-person onsite software engineering interview last week. The last person arrived a bit late and angry because something was going wrong with his own code just minutes before; he seemed a bit rough-around-the-edges and very irritable throughout my interview. I was quite nervous due to this and didn't answer his questions well.

That was last Thursday. Should I email my HR contact and voice this concern about my situation with that interviewer? I just want to ask for a second onsite interview before they make a final decision.

Please, some advice would be appreciated.

If they liked you even with your crappy answers, calling back and telling them their interviewer sucked may be shooting yourself in the foot.

well you have to ask yourself...why would you want to work somewhere where guys are getting irritable and rough and angry?
then on top of that you couldnt answer his questions well...i doubt he would want to work with you.

Yeah - I'd call them back. Explain to them you don't normally fold like a metal chair in pressure situations.

I think they'll buy that.

I'm not going to say that their interviewer sucked. I would just email the HR person something like this: Thank you for the interview last week. I just wanted to say that I was very nervous last week and may not have been at my best, particularly late in the afternoon. If I do not grade out very well, please take this into consideration. If needed, I would be more than happy to take part in another round of interviews. Sincerely...

Does that sound good?

No, it sounds like garbage. Take the end result like a man.

No. You're telling them that you couldn't handle the pressure of the interview. That will look worse in their eyes than your poor performance. Even though people who are very good at their job often don't do well in interviews, HR people suck and don't think that way.

Send a thank you note though.

I'd also follow up by sending them a link to this thread.

People don't want excuses, they want results... they'll find someone else who can handle a not so standard interview process.
