This is puzzling me to no end, specs

DFI Lanparty DK p45 MB
LG 22X DVD drive on the first SATA port

I've tried 3 different burning apps in Snow Leopard and the same thing happens. If I put in a blank CD, it scans and says "no media detected" I eject, reinsert same thing. I put in a blank DVD DL (only other media I have at the moment) it comes up showing blank media. GREAT! So I eject and put a CD in again "no media" ARGH! So I burned a DVD DL, everything went smooth. Just for shits and giggles when it was done I put a CD back in and BOOM detects a blank disc in! Perplexed I reboot, to encounter the same process as before. Gotta burn a DVD DL in order to be able to burn a CD. I reboot a 3rd time, same thing. So, I know the first 2 aren't a fluke. I'm just puzzled why. I've read the Pioneer DVD drives are recommended for Hackintoshs. But the fact mine sort of works has me wondering if it's fixable. Besides that my SL seems to be functioning perfectly normal. If there are any hardware issues outside of this, I'm not noticing them.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? Oh yeah my BIOS is set to AHCI mode, no IDE devices & my SL is 10.6.2 Since the DVD drive is on the first SATA port I have to imagine it's on an Intel port and not one of the Jmicron. I'm guessing the 2 different colored ports on my MB are the Jmicron ones. I'm totally stumped here.

What happens if you insert a movie into the drive and then drop in the blank disk?

And what burning programs have you tried?

I have not tried a DVD I'll dig one up and try that though. I tried Liquid Burn, Disk Util & that one with the real simple and funky interface, I don't remember it's name (removed it)

You can also try an application called simply, Burn. Very simple and straightforward.

Possible Media problem? I've had bad CDR's do that before, even in Windows. A lot of those Drive/Media incompatibilities are of the past though..

I should have probably mentioned *DOH* I don't believe I have this issue on the same box in Windows 7. I should probably boot to it and see for sure. But I don't remember ever having to burn a DVD to get a CD to work. These are crummy CD's though, so maybe I'll go pick up a better brand and see if that makes a difference.
