swap cards, boot, reapply kexts, reboot?

1. Uninstall old driver (if EFI String, delete from the boot plist)
2. Install new driver (Uinstaller)
3. Shutdown
4. Swap cards
5. Boot up and verify QE/CI

The Zotac 256mb 7300GT is a beast. Avoid the 512mb, it doesn't work.

Is it possible to use the Nvidia 10.5.5 kexts/drivers/wha? on a 10.5.6 system? The mouse bug is killllling me. Boo.

You think that might fix the iTunes/8x00 bug?

Hi, I am sorry to ask this question.
Can anyone, upload a picture how to connect the SATA hard driver and SATA DVD burner into the motherboard? I am using GA-P35-DS3L Rev. 2.
Because when i read the the "Leopard Soup 2.0.pdf" its said "make sure that your hard drive and dvd drive are plugged into the first 2 port of the motherboard, Port 0 and Port 1. These are the ones closet to the memory sticks, not the ones closet to the bottom of the motherboard near the edge."
I could located these, please anyone have a picture for me to see. Thank you very much. Thanks

It's the pair on the left, right above the Southbridge (the metallic orange heatsink).

Mosslack,

Can you confirm that this is still running well? Still using the USB stick, or did you switch to Chameleon? Can you test if various sequences of Sleep, Wake, Shutdown, Restart work?

Unless there is some other mAtx with built in video that works (with QE/CI, preferably DVI), I think I will swap out my Intel boxd32pr for your 945.

Many thanks!

Yes my 945 board Hack is the most stable Hack I have. I did convert it over to use the latest version of Chameleon (PC EFI v9 Chameleon v1.0.12) so the USB stick is no longer used as it boots just fine from the HD. And as I said before, I have also added a Gigabyte GS 7200 (256 Mb) video card. The onboard video works (QE/CI, no DVI), but the new video card works better and has DVI.

Shutdown and restart both work fine, but I have never used sleep so I could not tell you about that. If I'm done with the computer for the day I shut it off. If I know I will be coming back to use it later in the day I just shut the monitor off. Over the years sleep has caused too many headaches and I refuse to use it. It may work and if I get time I will try it, but I'm not sure when.

The computer is fully updated and has continued to work just fine with 10.5.6. If I can answer any other questions just ask or send me a PM if you want. HTH

Edit: In limited testing I would have to say that sleep does not work. I set it to 3 minutes and although the display returned when I moved the mouse, I never did have any control over the computer. Mouse cursor was all over the screen and clicking did not do anything on any icon I clicked on. I finally had to hit the reset button to reboot.

mosslack,

I see you did a MSI wind desktop. How satisfied are you with it, and what kind of performance do you get from it? I'm interested in building a hackintosh, and I could use an extra Mac OS machine on my network for internet browsing, etc. Is the Wind desktop a good choice? Would this atom processor give comparable performance to a core duo in
a 3 year old mac mini?

For that matter, would the budget configuration that Kaido has in his list offer better performance than a mac mini?

Thanks

After reading the guide at the first page of this page, (page 1) of how to install hackint0sh, and the Leopard Soup 2.0.pdf. I am still not sure yet.
In the topic guide it said:
a. Insert your USB stick (any size will do - 64mb or larger - but keep in mind it will be permanently installed 24/7 into your Hackintosh). I like to use a 1GB stick because then you can download the 10.5.5 update ahead of time, copy it on the stick, and save yourself 45 minutes of downloading. Anyway, open My Computer and right-click on the drive (note the drive letter for later) and click Format. Format to FAT (not FAT32), name it "BOOT132", and do a Quick Format.

b. Open DOS (Start > Run > cmd) and navigate to the win32 folder inside that bootloader folder you unzipped (usually type in "cd desktop/boot132/bootloader/win32"). At the prompt, type in "syslinux -ma h:", but replace h: with the drive letter of your USB stick. Hit enter and it should return you to the prompt instantly with no feedback. This installs the Linux bootloader system (very fast!).

c. In the BOOT132 folder on the desktop, open the "Copy to USB" folder - there are a bunch of folders and files inside. Select All of them and copy them to your USB stick - just drag and drop all of the files inside the "Copy to USB" folder over to the root of the USB stick.
And in the "Leopard Soup 2.0.pdf" it doesn't said anything about this USB stick. I am just wonder which one is the wring way to do. Should i follow the guide in "Leopard Soup 2.0" and add the USB stick into my hackintosh everytime? Thank you very much.

2.0 is the latest guide. All you need is a blank CD and a Retail Leopard DVD.

Nope, Boot Camp is only needed for Macs. You can just dual-boot. Easiest way is to install Windows to one drive, and Mac to another.

As leglez said, install Windows to one drive and Leopard to the other. Then just use the F12 key when prompted to select which drive to boot. HTH

As far as how it works it runs just fine. I have mine setup to dual-boot with Vista. I haven't really used it that much as I have 3 working Hacks at the moment and I usually use the P35 for most everything these days. The Wind will surf the net just fine. I don't have a Mac mini to compare it to but I would have to say they would be similar I'm sure. HTH

Getting computers to wake from sleep is one of the oldest problems there is around. I never really understood the concept of sleep mode in the first place, I mean what is it's purpose? If you are done using the computer, turn it off. If you know you will be using it later just switch off the monitor and leave it be. This is why the first thing I always do to a new install is the set sleep mode to NEVER!

[snip...snip]

Just following up on the status of my MSI Wind PC desktop regarding networking in case anybody else is having troubles.

I was able to surf just fine. However, if I tried connecting to anything on my network or vise versa it would drop the connections and disappear. I found that by going with the RealtekR1000_1-1.8.1.kext.zip driver, this problem went away. The only downside is that I have to start up with a "-f" prompt when booting otherwise it won't load up.

Did you install the R1000 driver to the Extensions folder?

Finally got my Hack up and running, but actually using the iPC ISO and not my Leopard retail disk. I tried that many times to no avail, but it may have had to do with AHCI and other settings in BIOS.

Currently I have 3 OSes in my system, Vista and 7 on one drive, and 10.5.6 on another drive all by its lonesome.

Here are the things that I have noticed:

Quartz Extreme is not available which means that my menubar is non-translucent, some animations are sluggish, and the biggie... VLC does not display video. I have a 7800 gtx which is not on Kaido's list, but is on another list of working cards. I have like 3 different nVidia drivers to choose from, and have no problem trying each one in sequence, but want to make sure that I can easily try them without having to reformat each time (the install takes no time at all, honestly, it takes more time to boot the disk and let it finish reading)

Networking... not sure if this is related to the Hack or something else entirely, but none of my OSes seem to be able to hold an internet connection. They all connect to the router just fine and get the DHCP information, but they only seem to get local access. Is it possible that the OS X LAN driver fiddled with the BIOS in a not nice way?

The boot screen (grey with apple logo) is off-res, but if I can get everything else working, then I really won't care about that unless someone has a quick and easy way to get it to display at 1680*1050.

So, if anyone can help out with this, that would be great. If not, then I can probably get the LAN thing sorted on my own, and the graphics thing is not critical since I still use my macbook for most of my video watching.

Hey Kaido,

Does the EP45-UD3P with your UD3P package support a working line for a microphone... I can't seem to get mine to work?

Thanks

Dunno, I'll see if I can dig up an analog microphone today. I've only used headphone out, just to verify that onboard works. It might be in the wrong port - the UD3P's speaker output goes through the black jack instead of the green jack, so maybe the mic input jack got rearranged as well.

I've got my UD3P board now, where can I find your install plug in? Only have 1 day off this week and I want to make the most of it. :)

With the RealtekR1000_1-1.8.kext.zip, I did install it there for sure. I don't recall what I did prior to this version. I think originally I didn't realize that the R1000 was what I needed so I was mucking with something else entirely. So maybe the 1.04 version would have worked.
