Sorry if this has been answered. I searched the topic for 1080p, mkv, h264.. Is the stock q6600 fast enough for downloaded mkvs at 1080p and high bit rate or should I get the e8400 instead? Is there anyone with the q6600 and some 1080p mkvs at high bitrate that can answer this? I would probably clock the q6600 to 3.0ghz if I have to but I would prefer stability. An example of a 1080p mkv which drops frames on my MBP 1.83ghz C1D is Ironman, it is about 8gb. Thanks guys.

You should be more than fine with a Q6600, my Allendale C2D plays 1080p mkvs smooth as butter.

in what program and at what bit rate?

833 Kbps? That cannot be right. Heck, my SD TV rips are about 1 Mbps. There is no way that it is only 833 Kbps on your 1080p MKVs. Where are you getting the bitrate from?

VLC will run them just fine, and as I said, Quicktime will play them if you have Perian installed, but you have to let them preload.

now its showing 2343.87 kbits/s. In vlc the statistics are all blank and I don't know another way. Basically I want to know if the q6600 will have no stutters, no matter the bitrate. or at least be able to handle most bitrates for the $200 price bracket.

I got my Hack running yesterday. It went pretty fast and was straightforward with no real glitches. Thanks to Zaap, Mosslack, Kaido and Weaksauce for taking the time and sharing your knowledge!

Now, I just gotta go and buy Parallels.

Quick update, I switched back to OpenHaltRestart. I *think* VoodooPower is what is causing the Kernel Panics on all of my machines - both my DS3L's and my UD3P are KP'ing 1-2 times a week for no reason. Will report back in a week, if there are no panics then I'm freezing the packaging and will release it. Hopefully 10.5.7 comes out this week :)

Did you ever notice you never see Kaido and Weaksauce in the same room at the same time? Very strange...

Yikes I bit on a cheap GTX 260 Core 216 and now I'm going to need another card for Mac.

Any idea of what will work natively with EFI strings? 7300GT 256MB, right? Probably an ATI 2400 also as those were used in iMacs.

I know the 7200 GS/7300 GT 256 Mb work as I have those in a couple of Hacks of mine. Just bought another one on NewEgg for my latest addition. :D

The latest package I downloaded as directed by Mosslack, only contains files for P35DS3L? and nothing for EP35? Or can I use this package safely? I just did a fresh install and wanted to install all the drives, but found out that it has
p35 ds3l full
p35 ds3l no audio or network
p35 ds3l no audio
p35 ds3l no network..

but nothing about EP-35-DS3L? Is it the appropriate package that I have? thanks all.

It works on the EP35 pefectly, but you'll need the F5 BIOS or newer (iirc I put all of the manuals and BIOS stuff in the package for the EP35 as well).

Thanks Kaido. just go worried as could not see "EP" anywhere on the universal osx86 installer :)

though I am using "f6a beta bios" for a long time with all the files I download from you, and so far no major problem, so should I be anticipating any problems? due to some recent changes? or has this f5 bios rule been present for quite a while now, and since i have been running hackintosh for more than an year on this f6a beta bios... so should be good to go..?

But you don't keed to completely reinstall everything just because of the BIOS. That is pretty independent from the OSes installed on a machine. The new Bios helps the RTC and eliminates nasty quirks while listening to music through the onboard chip (some Windows boards have more info on that). I think this Beta Bios also fights the apparent problem of Voltage drops on the Board.

I tried Chameleon 2 RC1 and noticed that since then my Computer won't restart or shut down properly anymore. Anybody an idea what I could do?

Gymnae- try booting from the Boot-132 disk again. Hopefully this bypasses Chameleon on the harddrive. Then re-install the older Chameleon.

EDIT: oops, re-read your post. I thought you weren't able to boot from the new Chameleon, but you're just having restart/shutdown issues? It could be that the correct kexts aren't loading. Maybe try re-doing UInstaller, like when you first set the machine up?

I tried all of that: I booted from the 123 Boot CD and ran UInstaller, no change, but when I booted from the CD the System restarted fine. Then I booted (is "booted" the correct past form of boot anyway?) from the HD again and no change. CPU-X also only shows me a fixed Clockrate of the CPU, whereas before it adjusted with the load. I don't know where things went wrong... how can I get the System back to a Vanilla/UInstaller state? All I played with was installing the Radeon drivers, which didn't to any harm and then Chameleon. Is it the SMBIOs or some ACPI kext missing?

Yikes. I really wouldn't recommend running anything but the BIOS for the EXACT model of board you have, including the exact revision. In many cases you can fry the mobo doing that. Good that you didn't- but still, not a good idea!

My guess would be to delete ALL added kexts (look them up from the original install package), delete the extensions.mkext (which is a cache of current kexts) repair permissions, and restart with -r -v flags.

Then try UInstaller again.

Otherwise, I don't know, not having messsed with Chameleon 2 myself, I don't know exactly what it adds or changes that would affect shutdown/restart. Maybe Kaido, mosslack or someone else would know for certain.

I kinda fixed it with installing the following kexts: VoodooPower and OpenHaltRestart from Psystar (Yikes). It helped and now I can also utilize speedstep - but I would prefer going back to Vanilla :)

I've got a stripped OpenHaltRestart for my next package release - no more Psystar advertising @ boot :D
