No recent posts on this topic - the Radeon LE in windows XP. Can hyper-Z be enabled in winxp? i can't see an appropriate registry entry. this is all I get (see below). What have peoples recent experiences been with the various programs like powerstrip, radeontweaker using Windows XP Pro, vs. manually changing a few registry settings? Using 3276 drivers off ATI's website.

I think the easiest way is just flash the bios, not telling you to do it, but it is most effective and is a more permanent solution then a windows fix.

<< how safe is it to flash the bios for LE?

http://members.rogers.com/carz2/radeon.htm

Is this safe? Or should I just use a tweaker program?

I just tried using the instructions on the site above. I couldn't even boot up using the disk created.

What is the best way to make my LE perform like a regular Radeon in XP?

I may be wrong, but I thought newer drivers (like all the XP ones, etc) treated a Radeon LE just like a regular Radeon DDR in that they leave Hyper-z and all those other features enabled by default. The only difference remaining is the clock speed one. You'll have to check up on that, but I thought I heard that somewhere...

Those directions should work fine. If not create your own boot disk in XP. Right click on the floppy drive in My Computer and select format. There's an option to make a bootable floppy. Then copy the files needed from the website onto the disk. I would be extremely careful. You could permanently damage the bios and its fairly hard to fix without a display (speaking from experiece, lol).

As far as enabling Hyper-Z, you shouldn't have to. When you install the 3276 drivers it picks up the LE as a Radeon 72000/Radeon which should have HyperZ enabled by default. But if you want to force HyperZ, try Radeonator from radeonator.cjb.net. You will find an option to enable HyperZ. It also has overclocking options.

I personally do not use the tweaker. I created a modified bios with a clock speed of 189 and installed the latest XP drivers from ati's site. Works fine for me, but for flexibility and ease of use, Radeonator is the best way to go.

www.rage3d.com is valuable resource to check out. They've been having some server problems lately so keep trying. They have links to the latest drivers and software for the radeon. You can also search for numerous posts on this same subject at their forums.

Hope that helps.

I've had problems with "Official ATI drivers" so I'm trying not to go that route.

Can anyone tell me whether HyperZ is enabled by default in XP? If that is true then I can simply tweak the core/mem speed using power strip.

How can I tell if hyperZ is enabled?

sure enough, my system crashed after I installed ATI's official driver. Don't know why, but at least it has been consistently crashing with ATI's drivers.

Did a system restore, thank god I don't have to reinstall OS like I did last time.

How do I check if HyperZ is enabled???

not too sure on seeing if its enabled but looking around in Rage3D Tweak v3.0 beta4 I see lotsa buttons to disable HyperZ functions. Sorry if not much help there.
