These machines are pathetic. They willfully violate so many well-established concepts in computer security. Why in God's name would they put executable code on the memory card that's supposed to hold votes?

I mean i think we all understand, and know well enough that these systems are hackable. Of course they are, anything is just about hackable, and usually the government has no idea. We should also understand that the people making these systems do have political views, and they do have personal gains. All of this is defiantly possible.

But what this video fails to do is give a solution. There is no solution given.

So that is what needs to be done, u can muckrake andmuckrake and muckrake, but if you don't give a solution, what are u doing?

I think it is almost going to be impossible for us to use computers for voting because of the huge hacking/piracy society these days.

And if we were to use computers, there is got to be a way so that no one can change things (cough no EXE on the damn memory card), it has to be done well, very, very well through endless testing.

Haha, i found it ironic that in congress the voting for yay or nay was done by "electronic voting" haha.

So, if you dont have a solution then, according to you, whatever flaws and faults you point out it is not valid?

and just so you know, this is an IT forum, I would think that half of this forum could do a better job than diebold

I dont think its upto the videographers to provide a solution. They are making it public that a HUGE problem exists with the machines. They arent making any money from this, and thus, dont have the funds to back the R&D to come up with a specific technical solution. It's upto the corporations making money from the sale of these machine, ie Diebold, to come up with a solution.

But the general solution would be to make it so that it is not easily hackable - ie no .exe on the mem card. True, nothing can be 100% hacker proof, but if the security system makes it sufficiently difficult to implement a hack on these machines, then it can be considered secured. It is not so right now, as the video easily proves

Oh yes, we do nothing at all up here in Ohio. *THAT* is why I've been working 10-14 hours per day, 6 days per week, doing as much as I possibly can, JUST to get ready for the election. YOU try conducting an election some time, it's not a "do nothing 360 days a year job".

 for your hardwork. Have you been able to watch the video yet? If so do you feel about it?

Also do you get paid to work at the polls or is it a volunteer gig?

No, I've not yet had time to watch the video. I hope to be able to sometime tomorrow or maybe before the end of the week. I'll post comments after I've seen it.

I just got home from work... 21 hour day. If your question was in reference to me... I am paid as an employee of the State of Ohio. As for our election day poll workers... it is paid, though some opt to volunteer.
