Hacking an old Sony Video Walkman TV/Video player?

I picked up a Sony GV-8 Video Walkman for cheap yesterday. It's busted up pretty good, but the LCD looks fine. It looks like the tape mechanism broke and the owner fixed it with a mallet.

I'm thinking the tuner and LCD are good enough to hack into a little TV-out LCD for my puter. Anybody done this? Or something similar? Thought I'd ask before I started taking it apart.

Ok, I've separated the modules, but trying to figger out what components attached to the tape drive are necessary. It won't power up at all with the tape unit disconnected.
