I am doing a class project on Habitat for Humanity and was wondering if any members of AT are directly involved with this organization. Anyone here volunteer? Anyone live in a Habitat home?

I don't mean to throw out personal questions like this, but I am interested in getting some information for my speech. If you don't want to post in the thread feel free to PM me.

I've put in close to 200 hours doing work on various HFH homes.

Any specifics you want to know?

Do you know any details about the sweat equity hours that families must do to acquire the home? I know that they spend time working on their home in progress and other homes in progress, but what other tasks are done?

Can't answer that question real well since I was only on one new site construct. Most of them were renovations and small jobs (re-roofing, drywalling, repainting, ect).

And in that one new construct, it was a very sensitive topic. The family that got the house got it under a lot of controversy. They didn't do jack during the building process, and the Father of the family ended up being an alcoholic and got arrested from stealing about $3,000 in trapping equipment from the neighbor across the street.

The house was paid for, and built by the members of the Catholic church in my hometown.
