Ha, new girl sent everyone her AIM screen name..

We're officially not "supposed" to use AIM at work, and it isn't possible to install it because of permissions and all..but AIM Express does work and the rule seems to be along the lines of don't ask don't tell.

However she just e-mailed the people in our dept her screen name to use to communicate with her..

From the week I've worked with her she seems to be very smart actually, has an MBA and all.

She's in her mid 30's or so and has worked some big positions in her career..

It can be, but most of the time I just chat there when I'm not neffing.

Aye, we use instant messenger in our office. In fact, we use it so much to communicate with one another that HR has identified it as causing a communications breakdown in our office and we're forced not to use it on one day a week (penalty being public embarassment in front of the entire office).

i use aim at work to talk to my coworkers ...at least where i work in MI. Here i don't even have access to my email (investment bank / wall st).

Why not just install Jabber and a Jabber only client?
That way people could in-office message without IT's worries of employees talking to outside people or receiving virus laden attachments.
