some of use like power tools now 🙂

Everything has it's place, and I have my share of powertools, but there are some things this does better. A well tuned plane will work figured wood far better than a 6" power jointer (which I have and use)

A buddy of mine is a carpenter and his hobby is digging up old planes at auctions.
He keeps a bunch of them, but turns the rest over at ebay.
He says, "Man, wait till you see what I picked up today". I go, "Wait, I bet it's a Zippo three barrel (his other passion)", and he shoves a plane (or two) in my face.
I say, "Wow, that's nice".
Somewhere along the way I miss the thrill factor, but now I know there's more than one of you out there who get the same charge 🙂
Congrats bud, I hope you have lots of fun with it!!!

Looks a lot like one made in 2005.

The design is of course similar, but the quality of materials, fit and finish are far superior with planes of that era. It matters a great deal, because newer Stanley planes will flex, causing "chatter" on hardwood. Rather than one smooth cut, the blade catches, flexes releases then catches again. Makes crap out of perfectly good wood. Of course there are good modern makers, but you are looking at 200-300 dollars and up for equivalent quality.
