I was told be someone that the onboard graphics of the H57 wouldn't work with an i5 750 because the chip also need to have on-die graphics.

So, I would still need an add-on video card with an H57 express chipset motherboard. Is that true? Or can I get by without a video card?

Thanks

you would need a videocard. Your friend was correct.

Actually it is the cpu that has the graphics chip on the die. The motherboard just works with it.

This seems to be a difficult concept for a lot of people.

H55/H57 has no onboard graphics chipset. All it has is the video connectors that can be used with the GPU on a Clarkdale CPU. i5-7xx doesn't have an onboard GPU, but all i3 and the i5-6xx do.

Also, keep in mind that if you do end up getting an i5-750 and video card, you must plug the monitor into the display ports on the video card itself. You can't plug them into the motherboard ports, it won't work that way.

Would this cause a system not to POST? I have a similar problem with an i5-750 with no video card installed but the system wont post.

If you are going with a i5 750, then don't get an H55/57 MB. Get a P55 MB, less expensive and in either case you'll need a video card.

The H55/57 MB's only make sense with the Clarkdale CPU's.
