I have 3x 290x in crossfire and when I run Dying Light the gpus seem to handle great on max settings, very quiet, high fps and the game is beautiful. When I play h1z1 which is a much shittier looking game, my cards fans to go max (i have them set in control center to max at 100% so they don't overheat) and I'm at around 50fps on ultra and even ultra doesn't look good on this game. It's not like this game is beautiful or anything. Why is this game taking so much resource?

It could be because the game is still in development.

A friend of mine plays that game. He was using an i3 IGP, but he said it was too slow. I sold him a 7790 to play it, and now he's happy.

Edit: I don't know what resolution / settings he plays at.

Have you checked to see if Crossfire is working?

The game is in alpha and using the old planetside 2 engine which is why it doesn't look nice.

huh? Its as modern as any other engine, it uses DX11, all the newest features you can put in a engine. The game looks FANTASTIC with everything on ultra.
Nov 2012 was when the engine was released, its newer than most engine devs use now. Its even the engine being used in Everquest Next.

The only reason OP is having issues is because of the game is running in dev mode so using more resources.

GPUz shows that h1z1 is running all 3 cards at max. When I run dying light it doesn't even use all 3 cards. And I don't think h1z1 looks amazing by any stretch of the word. It's not bad looking but I wouldn't say amazing.

Looks fantastic? If fantastic is dog crap then yes I agree. The game looks worse than DayZ in many instances. It would have looked nice if they used the Crysis engine or UE4.

The Forgelight engine is actually DX9, and has all the limitations that come with it. Such as no multi threading, etc.
