I had to get one because I am diabetic :( My question is when you got did the injection location turn red and swell up for a while. I got the shot Friday and the injection area still hurts like a bitch.

Assuming you mean H1N1, I didn't have any problems with it. Hurt a tiny bit for a minute or two, and I've been fine ever since.

How is it any different than the regular flu shot?

Good question but I can tell you from experience it hurts more because I got the H1N1 in my left arm and the regular flu shot in my right arm. My left arm feels like it got hit by a truck.

The H1N1 shot I got was the least painful shot I've ever received. And I've had my fair share of shots (2 allergy shots a week for about 5 years!!)

It does hurt a bit for a few days. Feels like a bruise, maybe even a big more. It's the night of the first day and the day after that seems to hurt the most. It hit me suddenly that night when I moved my arm a certain way and felt it.

not umbearable or anything though.

Regular shot: large diameter needle, lots of liquid to give you, so that massive needle is in you for a long time.

H1N1 shot: Miniscule size and in your arm for less than a blink of the eye. it was by far the easiest shot I've ever gotten.

That might be your problem, assuming you're right hand dominant. More than one nurse has told me that it's best to get flu shots in your dominant arm, the more you move the arm after the shot, the less it will ultimately hurt.

No problems for me with either of the flu vaccines this year, no pain to speak of by the time I was in bed that night. I got them a couple months apart FWIW.

This thread reminded me that I got an H1N1 shot. I completely forgot after the first five minutes, none of that crappy sore deltoid stuff (though I think that was tetanus shots... not sure).

Vaccinations are complete bullshit. You wanna know how I immunized myself from H1N1? I got infected and dealt with it the old fashioned way -- My IMMUNE SYSTEM. No BS shots. No risk. Yeah, it sucks for a few days, but it's natural and there are no side effects like having to walk backwards for the rest of my life. Everyone knows this.

I got mine in my left arm (non dominant) and I didn't feel the needle at all. No soreness after either. Easiest shot ever.

I think it has a lot to do with the person giving you the shot.

didn't feel anything in the arm, but a couple days later gave me a head cold that's going on a week old now.

I haven't had it, but my dad had it (he is diabetic) and he was out of commission for a couple days, basically like he had the flu and his arm hurt, but he could get out of bed and do stuff around the house. He stayed home from work though.

The shot itself was in my right shoulder and it surprised me that it was completely painless. Needless was in and out in less than 2 seconds.

Shoulder felt like it was bruised for maybe 2 days and that was it.

The regular flu shot made my arm sore for a day or so. H1N1 didn't hurt at the time or afterwards.

Except for the things that will kill you... yeah...

I've never had a flu shot before, I prefer my own antibodies. But for TB and smallpox and what not, that's a different story.
