Well, I quit using them 2 years ago because they screwed up my return. I did my own last year.

My sister is a CPA and does corporate taxes for a major firm and because she is so busy at this time of year and knowing the long hours involved, I've never asked her to do mine.

My daughter had her's done this year at H&R Block. She was happy with a $450 dollar check and took them up on their instant rebate option that was very expensive. Total bill $160.

My sister insisted she look over the forms after I and my daughter could not answer her specific questions.

She found another $2400 PLUS!!!

We will DEMAND a refund from H&R for the charges to do the forms.

The bad part is I pay $600...but that's another story....:disgust:

I just wonder how much I've been screwed out of through the 25+ years H&R Block did my taxes...:|

Here is a thing with H&R block.. their accountants arent really accountants..

they are people trained to do other people taxes.. H&R block keeps them as CPA's but the point is that they arent really a real accountant. Same thing with Jackson Hewitt, they hire a lot of people during the tax season but most of the are college students, either studying accounting or something else. But as I said they arent accountants. They are trained to do stuff and make it look like an accountant but they just know basics. Therefore they cant be claimed to be an accountant.

I have been doing my own taxes over the last year (this year too) all this because H&R block didnt get me setup right. The only good thing with H&R block is that if something goes wrong you can blame them for it.

what I can't believe is that the H&R Blockheads actually charge $100 for a simple 1040A form AND get away w/it:frown:

Perhaps you should consider asking your sister if she would do your (et al) taxes and how much she'd charge for it. No harm in asking. She may be able to recommend someone or offer basic advice to help one do their own taxes. That H&R instant rebate option is a sucker fee for those with no patience. Good luck on that refund. Your daughter planning to reward your sister for her $2.4k+ help? I use my last year's form as a template for the current year. Isn't H&R and the like considered at the lower rungs of their chosen prof...occupation?
