Okay, I know it is a bit early to be thinking about taxes, but H&R Block has already started sending out their CDs with discount offers. As in year's past, the size of the discount offered on the CDs ranges very widely. And as in year's past, there is now a thread on slickdeals that describes how you can secure the highest CD-offered discount. You'll have to search for the thread, as it never gets front page treatment.
Let me address a couple of questions up front:
Let me address a couple of questions up front:
- Is H&R Block the best tax software to use?
I don't know. I have used it for years and have therefore come to like the way it goes about collecting the necessary data. Long time users say the same thing about TurboTax. I think it is fair to say that both give you the same result when used properly, and that is probably true for other tax software as well.
- Is this deal legit?
The H&R Block CDs are sent out with an explicit request that you share the CD "with your friends". An argument might be made that the slickdeals thread promotes a much wider distribution than H&R Block intends. On the other hand, this discount sharing through slickdeals has been going on for several years now and I have to believe that H&R Block would have taken action to prevent it if they felt it was unfair use of the discount they offer. I see this as akin to sharing a coupon or promo code, and therefore believe it is legit.
