H&R Block 2016 Tax Software: Deluxe $4.95, with State $9.95

As in previous years, H&R Block has started sending out CDs offering discounted prices on their 2016 tax preparation software. The size of the discounts offered vary from CD to CD. Some of the best deals reported to date are: Deluxe for $4.95, Deluxe+state (no state efile) for $9.95, and Premium+state (no state efile) for $19.95.

There is a rapidly growing slickdeals thread that explains what you can do to receive the largest discounts being offered. Strangely it has not made it to their front page. Here's the link:

As to the sharing of these CD discounts, at the close of the software installation process H&R Block asks you to: "Pass the savings on! Share this CD and special offer with your friends and family!". I think we're good!

Well, nuts, I may have just spent too much on an Amazon Gold Box deal. Does this include the 10% back on Amazon gift cards deal, though?

Poking around on the Amazon listings for H&R Block, I found a "highlight" stating:

Refund Bonus Offer
The H&R Block Refund Bonus program offers you the option of using some or all of your federal individual income tax refund to purchase electronic gift cards from Amazon.com. As a special bonus to you, we’ll add an extra 5% or 10% to the amount of your e-gift card, depending on which H&R Block product you use.

So I think the answer is that Amazon only offers a refund bonus when you are using H&R Block software purchased from Amazon.

The Amazon Gold Box deal is back, with 10% back on Amazon gift cards purchased out of your refund. The price is higher than some other deals initially, but you can make that back pretty quickly if you buy a lot from Amazon.
