Interestingly, TD has a 295x2 going for $900 (and 3 games) right now. So in very niche cases, it would almost qualify as a value.

(also available via Amazon from TD... because commerce)

That's still poor value because you can get almost 4x 290s for that price, 3x 290Xs and nearly 3x 970s. I would also pick 2x 980s because with overclocking they will beat 295X2.

If XDMA was the primary factor, 280X wouldn't' be that close at 4K. 970 SLI's advantage at 1080p/1440p fades away against 290s once at 4K despite 970 having 64 ROPs like the 290s. If you look at 290X vs. 780Ti single benches, 780TI is pretty fast but falls off in SLI. CF driver scaling is simply better than SLI in recent years and it only gets worse for NV once you add 3rd and 4th GPUs.

I agree. I also notices that the other SLI vs CF showdown wasn't nearly as lopsided at techpowerup. Nor the 970 SLI comparisons vs 290 CF. I wish all of these reviews would take the time to show FCAT, minimum frames etc.

Obviously on Alien Isolation there is an issue with SLI when entering a terminal. I imagine this will get fixed fairly quickly especially after it was called out like that.

I really don't think Watch Dogs is a great game to compare anything on to be honest. The Unity engine was simply not made for PC.

Well, I thought I qualified it enough... but I guess not. I was thinking of niche cases like where you only have 1 PCIe available, but want serious performance. LAN boxes and the like...
