Wow, a thread about gyro.....amazing.

Well, Mister T and the others are right it's YEE-RO, and I know this for two reasons. 1. I am greek. 2. My parents own a Gyro shop. Therefore, using all my sources I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it YEE-RO and not JY-RO or GEAR-O, or HERO, etc.....

You haven't had a good gyro till you have it with sour cream sauce and not cucumber sauce. It's much better that way. Oh yeah, and to answer your question, I usually have either lettuce, tomato, and sauce, or just the sauce.
