WTF is up with the first pic? Is it just me or is half that kids body missing?

I think it looks like he's swinging forward and his legs are behind him. His arms look forshortened to suggest this.

Oh, and I don't think that's a midget kid, the "half a kid's" bar is in front of that wall to the right. The kid in the back is another ~10 feet in back of the "half kid"

Looks real to me.

No, I really don't think that's the case. How far backwards do your legs bend at the hips?

He was trying to tell you that the kid's entire body is at an angle, he was in the middle of a large swing. You can tell by the extension of the ribs and torso that his body is both angled away from the POV and his back is bowed while powering through the downfall of the swing. The fact that the bottom of the window frame meets the disappearing of the legs heightens the "photochop" effect, but it's real. Another factor that may be tricking untrained eyes is that fact that the boy is positioned in front of a window - a powerful light source, and powerful light usually blots out parts of a picture taken by cameras with poor settings for the environment (much like taking the gamma adjustments for an already bright photo and raising it until edges start to disappear).

Here's another example that conveys the same point. If the picture had been taken from the left, you wouldn't be able to see her left leg, yet her torso would still be visible.

Wow,
That picture is a fake. I didn't spot that.

I had to do something similar to this when I was taking TKD in Korea - while this is dangerous if done improperly, if it's with a trained professional, it should be fine. For all we know, the kids might have opted to go take gymnastics - I know I sure did when I was there - the first picture is an obvious photoshop, and the others - well, it seems like regular training to me.

I've had blisters like this on my feet for at least two years before I delveoped a deep enough calice. I *highly* doubt that American kids who train seriously do any less than this.

Exactly. I don't think this country doesn anything much worse than what western society does. They might put a little more emphasis on it, because they are in poverty, and it's their only way "out".

I watched a 60 minutes special on this a while back, and the kids genuinely loved what they did and all the hard work it took. They talked about gymnastics and diving (in China). They look sad, but I think that is just in the moment.

no it's not ok IMO. They're probably being forced to do gymnastics most likely (gee think of the country they're in) and on top of that, likely physically forced/enforced to go through the exercises.

Not new. I saw a BBC documentary on Jackie Chan about 15 years ago that had footage similar to these pictures of how they train kids. The kids in that documentary were crying when the trainers were bending their bodies to extreme angles. It was kind of disturbing when I saw it.

I guess to those parents its great honor. But its got to be real bad for the kids. Anyway how effective is this training? Sure the Chinese win gold occasionally, but so do other countries like the U.S. who doesn't send children off to gymnastics farms.

If they choose to do it then I don't see a problem. Making angry faces like that is pretty standard when you're trying to improve your flexibility with stretching.

Even if these kids are taking these classes voluntarily, it's not necessary to do such grueling drills at such a young age.

Those pics are so fake.
Zoom the area between their heads and the neck.
You'll notice how pixels are distorted and the shadow is unbalanced.

Even a photoshop newb like me can put your happy face on those bodies.

I HATE how many people will scream "PHOTOCHOP" whenever just about ANY picture is posted.

These do not seemed to be photochopped.

There are lots of things that kids don't enjoy that is good (if not essential) for them.

Hardly a valid argument.

I'm in the middle on this one.

Aye I know where you're going with this but some of those pics are borderline child abuse.
