Is this wrong?

I am not saying what country these images are from. If you wish to dig that information up or if it is obvious to you then fine. Do not post it in this thread. It will just start a flame war. The topic: Is this kind of training OK? The topic is not "hey look what this country is doing to their children"[/b]

I know which country these pics are from, and I think it's pretty bad what they're doing

Yeah, it's good to start training at a young age, but just look at the pics

Just to play devil's advocate... I wonder how those kids will fare later in life in gymnastics.

If they win gold at the olympics and it is directly because of this "training" does that justify it?
I also wonder how they would look back on it if it meant a lifetime of success in the sport... I don't know how I would feel if I was one of them

It doesn't look like they're enjoying it, so I'd have to say no it's not right.

There are lots of things that kids don't enjoy that is good (if not essential) for them.

Hardly a valid argument.

I'm in the middle on this one.

Why are the kids showing their hands in the last picture? Is it to show off their hard work?

did you see the blisters?

Yes, but maybe they think it is a good sign.
Maybe not them, but possibly whoever took the picture.

I had to comment on this.....

You guys do know that those photos all are fake, right?

They're photoshopped.... pretty blatantly, too.

Ugh

Someone thinks it is a positive sign.
You can "brainwash" anyone. Kids are the easiest.

Makes sense to me now. The arms on the kids in the first pic looked fake

WTF is up with the first pic? Is it just me or is half that kids body missing?

Just noticed that myself.

Fake or not things like this do happen (though perhaps not as blatantly as these pictures would like to suggest).

Hardly valid terms to discard my argument. We're not talking about eating their daily spinach, or brushing and flossing three times a day. We're talking about hyperextension, undue stress, bodily harm, fucking exceeding the limits of a childs body to impose standards upon them that they never agreed to (I can't prove that, but I'm willing to bet they weren't eager about it). Sure they might grow up to be fabulous gymnasts, but who said they wanted to? Most of those stories you hear during the Olympics about athletic prodigies actually started performing that skill when they were between 9 and 15, not 3 and 7.

I think it looks like he's swinging forward and his legs are behind him. His arms look forshortened to suggest this.

Oh, and I don't think that's a midget kid, the "half a kid's" bar is in front of that wall to the right. The kid in the back is another ~10 feet in back of the "half kid"

Looks real to me.
