I want to upgrade my GW6400 with more memory.... i have just gotten 3 256 modules
(2 Micron, 1 Crucial) to add to the 64MB that came with the machine.
Gateway on line says to install memory from DIMM3 first to DIMM0 last.
OK..
Does it matter where the 64MB goes?? Should it be in DIMM3 or DIMM0??
Should I even keep it in there?? Will it hurt performance since it will not be
matched (ie 64mb and 256mb)??
Is there a program to run to see which config works better?
Are there any other changes I need to make to OS to optimize memory usage?
(I dual boot with win2k and Xp)

THANKS!!!

I believe it should be fine no matter how you put the dimms in. The only problem you might have is mixing 64 & 256 meg dimms. You'll know soon enough if that will be a problem. In any event, you don't have to worry about frying your ram no matter how you put the stuff in.

I have mixed and matched viking , crucial, and whatever came with it in 128, 256, and 512 all at the same time,
never had a problem- and now I've got 3x256 and 1x128 sitting here - want another 256mb crucial?

Which is the best Ram you guys would recommed for the gateway 6400. I bought mine during the original deal and now am ready to play with it. Any suggestions on great RAM prices and the type I should be looking for would be appreciated. Thanks all.
