The high unemployment numbers allow employers to treat their workers are cattle. People are afraid to quit and there's a ready pool of applicants to replace those that do.

I wonder if the manager is new at the place. I can't imagine knowing someone for 13 years in a close setting, like a business with less than 50 people, and then dumping them at a crucial point in their life.

Maybe his job performance was so terrible after getting/dealing with the news that they had to let him go. I think the guy is probably innocent, but it's a possibility. We're only getting one side of the story here.

At least we don't fuck sheep, I know you guys over there don't find it disgusting, but believe me the rest of the world does.

Getting old, bro. Gayner is going to hate on America no matter what, no sense in using the sheep shtick any more.

Wow is what you quoted really true? Not that our employment laws here are a hell of a lot better. Though I suspect they are a little better.

It's true. I'm not a big fan of it obviously, but there are other laws that still apply, just not FMLA in particular. US laws protect workers pretty stringently, but they obviously aren't perfect and this is a good example of one of the problems. With that said, it's not clear cut either because if you forced the business owner to continue supporting the employee it might open up a can of worms. I don't believe in slippery slopes, but I can see where this could be debated given the right circumstances.

I bet the owner had nothing to do with it. Sounds like his boss has no idea how to manage people. If I worked there and learned this, I'd be looking for another job.

He might not have, who knows. But one thing I do know is that he can take care of the problem.

The guy needs some extra time off, so they rather pay higher unemployment insurance fees by firing him? Sounds like a great business decision to me!

Why not give it to him and if he fucks up you're off the hook?

This is what happens when you have a health insurance/care system that is largely tied to one's place of employment. I'm sure this happens at larger companies, but only after they find some "other" reason to terminate you.

good. if you employ people, you should be free to hire/fire who you wish. obviously the employee wasn't well liked for whatever reason if this is what they got, probably a reason behind it

If you took the proper libertarian response, you might wish for an "accident" to happen to the manager on the way home from work one night. See, that's the proper response to bullshit. Actions should always have consequences, and those consequences should be considered before action is taken....

Isn't slayer202 15 years old and living at home? Maybe he'll understand one day when he's been working hard for a company for a number of years.

clearly your knowledge of me is no better than your knowledge of the world or reality. I guess I should consider an insult from you like a compliment though :hmm:

Would be wonderful to see some online group destroy their site for a few days and have their customers boycott them.

I'm not liking this wielding of 4chan as an internet weapon. While effective at making a point, simply encouraging people to stop doing business with them is far more effective I think.

They could "encourage" them by replacing their web site with a write up of what they did to the guy for a few days or even hours, get the word out.
