ok, i have decided on a vehicle, and the sales (internet) told me that the price of the car is 28,000 plus tax and lic. Now that confuses me. So what's the price of the car out of the door? I am in CA so the tax is 8%.

So basically, 28,000 x 1.08 = 30240 this is the price of the car after tax, am i right?

now how much is the licence fee? where can i read about it? people told me it's a percentage of the price of the car, but no one can tell me for sure how much that would be.... if you know the price of the car is 28,000 and i am in CA, could you tell me the licence fee, or at least the ballpark?

all help are appreciated (no idea as this is the first time getting a car). i figured it wouldn't be the best thing to do to ask the sales about it, that would effectively tell him i know nothing about car @_@

This is a car right not a truck?
License my guess would be 800$ at the very most.
Around 31k out the door because they also like to hit you with a doc. fee

Johnny is in the ballpark. I would always brace for the worst possible ammount. Then if it is less, bonus. :)

I just recently purchased a car (I live in CA too) and I think the license fee was about $300 (I paid $19,000 for a camry). Beware the documentation fee. Some dealerships charge extremely high fees. I think that around $40 is considered reasonable. And don't forget the destination charges (sometimes not included in the quote). Lastly, you may be charged an "Advertising Fee". This is supposedly to cover their advertisement costs.

Wow, thanks guys, that's great help. I am thinking about the Acura TL and the TL type S. I got the price of the TL-S to be around 29000, then I have to add doc fee, tax, lic, 5 bucks tire fee (what is that btw??), 300 bucks vehicle theft registration fee (also, what is this??).

therefore if i am right, 29000 x 1.08 = 31320, then i will add the licence, which is max at around 800 bucks just like what johnny said, so it would be around 32k. then add those tire fee and vehicle theft registration it would be around 32,500?

did i do the right math here? again, thanks for the help guys!

i promise when i get my new car i will take some pic ;)
