guys I need some quick help. I got the PAL 8045 HSF and just installed it. I got one of the Sunon 50 cfm fans. It's powered w/the 4 pin molex connector. My retail HSF was w/the little one that plugs onto the mobo. BUT when I don't have anything plugged into the cpu fan plug, my computer won't boot up and powers off. I was worried at first becausae my computer wasn't booting up w/the new HSF, but when I kept it in there and plugged in my old fan, it would boot up. Any ideas how to fix this?

Well I just tried putting jumpers on all 3 pins. No Go. BTW ... I have a Soyo Dragon+ motherboard.

well this sounds very odd to me

but you say it boots with a fan connected to the mobo fan header?? so if you have an extra 3-pin tailed fan lying around plug in and direct the air towards you cpu or pci/agp cards and like attach it inside your case with a twist tie or somthing

Don't put jumpers on the fan-header pins!

edit: if you create a direct short-circuit like that, you may never get that fan header to work again, and at the moment it seems to be critical to the use of your motherboard. I have the Dragon+ manual in .pdf format here, I think, and there was some mention of how to bypass the issue you're up against. I'll post back once I find the solution, but don't try shorting out your header! :Q

Ok, look in section 2-3.1 of your manual. It says to press the Insert key to override the Fan-Off Control, then go into the BIOS and disable Fan-Off Control ("FOC"). Or you could plug your 3-pin fan in for long enough to go into the BIOS and disable the FOC, and then shut down and install your 4-pin fan. Good luck!
