i'm not one that normally goes for HD players, but i'm thinking that i'll just use my busted flash mp3 player when i workout, and the ipod for all other purposes. i really couldn't justify paying $250 for a 512mb flash player when i could get a 10gb ipod for $240.

10GB iPod
Regular Price $299
Educational Price $269
Cornell Store Holiday Special $239

20GB iPod
Regular Price $399
Education Price $369
Cornell Store Holiday Special $329

40GB iPod
Regular Price $499
Education Price $469
Cornell Store Holiday Special $429

$250.00 for a replacement battery is a bad joke, especially if the batteries only last 18 months

Umm...you can get a replacement battery for $50 online and install it yourself in 15 minutes or less. The guy who made that video was out for publicity and attention...and he got his 15 minutes of fame.

That still is weak...an 18 month battery, that's horrible. A RECHARGABLE battery should last a lot longer than 18 measley months. Is that true for every iPod though?

Who said the battery only lasts for 18 months. And we've already established ipodsdirtylittlesecret.com is full of it.

Apple now also has a $99 battery replacement service. it is NOT $250 as that site says. And there's plenty of people with older iPods that are still going just fine.

Don't believe everything you read...

Yep. Know a guy with a first gen that's still going 12 hours without needing a recharge.

Apple is pretty good with customer service. Now, I'm not one to take the side of a company over your regular joe, but that "Dirty Secret" video conviently leaves out any dealings with a manager and is complete hyperbole. If that guy had gotten upset and demanded a manager, he probably would have gotten a new battery for far less.

However, Apple's firmware support of older iPod versions is certainly lacking.

I could care less about how long the batter lasts but if I was going to pay that much for a MP3 p[layer Apple better give me free batteries for life.

let's call dell and demand that they provide free batteries for their notebooks. while we're at it let's call all the major notebook manufacturers. we do pay over $1000 for most notebooks, don't we? while we're at it, i think we should also get in touch w/ manufacturers of PDAs, digicams/camcorders, etc. and make sure that we get free batteries for life for all these items as well.
