Also good to know that there's probably nothing physical wrong and dangerous.

Well that is a possablity but if heat isn't getting transfered to the heatsink it's not going to feel hot/warm.

The way I figure it, if there is a distinct imprint of the WHOLE processor square on the HSF then the mount must be correct, and if the temp is only warm to the touch, the temp sensor must be messed up. I would go ahead and install Windows and get a new BIOS. If it dies, it's Intel's problem because you've done all you could.

I agree. Besides a windows install would be a good stabilty teest. If it makes it through heat most likely isn't a problem. If it dosn't.... well you know where to look first.

hey guys.

i first updated the BIOS but there wasnt any change in the temp. so i just went ahead and installed WinXP it went along fine without any probs. I am using an Intel D865PERL MOBO, so with it came intel active monitor software i installed that and from it the temp when the pc is idle is around 50 to 53C. the highest it went was 56C after i played black hawk down for a while. everythin was stable and fine. ill do more checkin later n load it up and keep it while to see wht happens.

i kept touchin the HS with my finger once awhile to check the temp but it stayed jst a bit warm, actually much more cooler than i expected even a normal one to be, it sure is cooler than my other harddisk. after checkin it in the intel monitor and when i go to the BIOS its still around 56C to start with n it goes up like before.

:)
