I doubt it, unless he fell for one of those columbia house type things. He hasn't had too much time to ruin his credit (especially since he leeches off of his parents).

I really hope the seller puts together the money and time to teach the OP a lesson.

AFAIK the scam that is Columbia House can't touch your credit report because they don't have your SSN. They can turn you into a collection agency they use but all they can do is annoy you. I signed up for CH DVD club several years ago - my first shipment arrived with 1 of the movies in full screen format and the cover sliced on another movie. I called CH support and it took forever to navigate a maze of menus. In the end I shipped everything back and canceled my membership (or so I thought). FF to a few months back they send me a bill for around $100 because I didn't fulfill my membership. I called again but never found a way to speak to a human CSR. I sent them an Email but never got a response (or bounce). After some research I found a CH address to send these type of complaints to. From the stories I read this is SOP for CH. I sent them a certified letter explaining my situation and said any further bills would be forwarded on to the State of FL Attorney General. About 6 weeks later I received a letter from CH saying my balance was zeroed and my membership was canceled. Still, took several hours of my time to get everything taken care of. Short story: Stay away from Columbia House! Lesson learned here. :)

Oh, to the OP: Apparently you don't know it but you're an ass. Hopefully you'll get screwed over in some deals so you realize it.

Probably, but neither is bumping this thread. Touche.

And legally I am not bound to pay his relist fees unless he takes me to court. Until then I guess I will sit back and laugh at this thread.

He should have factored re-list fees into his accounting when he decided to list a "show car" that will realistically probably never sell for $12k.

don't worry about the naysayer asshats in this thread, OP. ignore the seller, and be on your way.

Resist the urge to shoot off nasty emails to him, and let him do what he wants.

I threaten my nonpayers with lawsuits as well and it works 25% of the time, i consider it free money since I get back the money regardless of what they do.

Hey guys I'm gonna bid $10,000 on a car and then tell my parents they have to pay for it!!!
I wonder how that will go over???

sent the seller a message, hope this get him piss off enough to really sue this kid.
Awesome! The seller needs to know what kind of prick he's dealing with.

Would be nice to see the seller post here so that the OP really wets his pants. Can't stand junevile pricks who thinks they are above the rules of the real world and don't think before they act.

ROFL, facts:
1) I am not a "juvenile"
2) I am not above the law
3) go fvck yourself and gtfo the thread.

The great thing about people like the OP is that the older they get, the less and less their mommies and daddies will bail them out out of stuff like this. Eventually this kind of behavior is going to catch up to you, dude. Grow a pair and start at least attempting to act like an adult, or your life is going to be miserable wreck due to your own laziness.

You mock the price of the car *after* placing a bid??

Have you ever sold something on Ebay for $10,000? What % does Ebay get for service fees? And how do you pay those fees based on the fact that the item was 'sold' but it was never actually purchased?

He's just trying to rationalize his mistakes instead of manning up. Not once in this thread did he admit what he did was wrong.

1) You are 20 and made a 10000$ legally binding offer without having a job, asked your parents for money and when you didn't get it, stiffed the seller. That's juvenile. And that doesn't even account all the other posts you made in this thread.

2) No you are not, and that's why you are liable for the money. Worst case scenario if this goes up to court and the seller pursues the matter fully, you own the car and owe 10K. Unlikely but always possible depending on the judge. You should have thought of that before you bailed on a 10000$ bid that you couldn't uphold.

3) Score another point to being on the juvenile side =).

I "offered" $10k for a showcar in Atlanta thinking my parents would pay... they didn't and now he's sending me rude ebay messages. Am I liable?

in that case... yes. If you made the offer, you're liable for not following through. I would say you owe him the cost of a relist, but nothing more.

And associated service fees. As far as Ebay is concerned, an item of $10,000 was sold and they want their 2% off the top as agreed on by the seller. Not Ebay's or the sellers fault that the buyer ended the auction and entered a contract to purchase. If the buyer is lucky, the seller can convince Ebay that it was a dead beat bid and they will not charge 'end of auction' fees.

No, because you bought the car and didn't pay for it, plain and simple.

Go see what happens when you sign for a loan at a dealership or a sign a mortgage and decide you don't have to pay. Screwed for life. Be lucky this is only $200 and off the books.

FYI I've accidentally bought the wrong items on Ebay before after having two windows open and deciding, only to buy the wrong one by mistake. I paid or offered to pay all closing costs and relisting fees for my mistake.

Time to be a man and stop depending on your parents or your youth and ignorance to bail you out :D

If you're lucky, you and the seller can negotiate with Ebay on the basis of being a dead beat bidder and see if Ebay will refrain from charging the seller for listing and closing costs and in effect undo your bid.

1) yeap 100% correct.

2) not right. they will not make him buy the car. what the seller can do is now sale the ccare for $8000 and sue the OP for the $2000 diffrence and any fees.

3) what he is really trying to say is "Go find some good porn and release some of that tension! and don't come back until you do!"

Jesus you guys much be a bunch of 30-50 year olds making decent money at a full time job... how the hell else do you justify being such assholes? I'm not paying him to relist the item. I was going to offer less than his buy it now but I didn't realize that meant having to buy the car. I haven't used eBay motors before so I guess you can pwn me on that too.

And I'm not going to "whine to mommy and daddy." Keep it coming, pussies.

How the hell am I embarrased? I have like 10 people asking me how old I am and a few other people stalking me and looking up my information on the internet. And no I am not in Corte Madera right now, thank you very much.

Keep trying to "own" me. I'm having a great laugh. I am not entitled to have to pay him anything. eBay isn't liable either and I know more lawyers than the seller of this car knows, all of them very good at what they do, so I wish him luck.

Legally and morally you are entitled. Whether you get sued is another issue, but no mistaking it.. you are legally and morally obligated. You are morally bankrupt though it seems.

I don't not claim anything... ahh if I could be your age so I could justify being an ass on the internet.

Isn't bidding on an item you don't have the money to buy being an ass on the internet?

Interestingly this kinda follows with a discussion we had during lunch.
It seems the main question upon which a lot of today's decisions are based is not "Is this the right thing to do?" but "Can I get away with this?"
