This happens:

Joshua Taylor listed his old MacBook on Craigslist for extra cash. But after meeting a potential buyer at a coffee shop, the 25-year-old was detained by officers—two dressed in tactical gear and a third in plainclothes—from the Atlanta Police Department. Taylor would soon learn he was the target of a mysterious, and botched, sting operation.

[...]

We’re just sitting there, and suddenly I’m approached from behind by an officer, or I think it’s an officer. He immediately orders, “Put your hands behind your back! Put your hands behind your back!” and he has something pressed into my back. I look over my shoulder and can see a big yellow Taser.

The Police acted precipitously, without proper cause, then just said, "My bad", uncuffed the guy and walked away.

I can only hope they are held responsible for what was dangerously lazy police work.

So what happened if he flinched, or panicked?
They assault him, taser him, shoot him?
Is he innocent? Naw - he's coming right at us!

We need to express exactly what is wrong here, and the actions we want to address it.

So what is the issue, exactly? The sort of sting operation or ambush? The use of undercover or assault gear? Not simply walking up in uniform and calmly introducing themselves and making the detention in a civil manner? The lack of review and accountability for being wrong?

I'd say address the undue risk to himself and others. That they caused.

wow... thats just... horrible. cops get away with shit like this all the time. a buddy in high school had a similar thing happen. he was driving, and pulled over by the cops then eventually had a ton of cruisers surrounding him, and told him at gunpoint to slowly get out of the car. they misidentified the car they were looking for and let him go... i'd be traumatized as well.

two dressed in tactical gear and a third in plainclothes
Because a guy potentially selling a stolen laptop might pull an AK-47 or something

I saw the story earlier today and I was "how could the cops get away with that?".

The guy in the story should get a lawyer and sue the cops (as long as the story was true).

and what will that accomplish? taxpayers will give him a quick million and the cops will continue their tactics.

File a complaint and possibly seek damages, even if they settle. It's still another record o police not doing their jobs properly which could be used later. These are the only things you can do and eventually they will matter.

I am amazed cops occupy themselves with such nonsense considering all the violent crime we still have in America.

If he would have flinched, they would have shot him. All cops carry a drop gun that they would have put in his hands, and then claimed he pulled a gun on them first. Don't you know anything!

Unless that guy is rich, lawyer ain't an option.
And based on the story, he isn't.

It's because American cops are far to aggressive and this is why bad things happen, try being nice and not getting a gun out every 5 minutes might make things go alot easier.

Whats worse is when they get bad intel or the wrong address and serve a no-knock warrant on an unsuspecting family.

Although I think in this case the cop who threw the grenade was indicted. Not sure what happened. But people's houses get wrecked, residents get roughed up, and most times the police just walk away.

Serious question.

Why do all of these stories about black people (that are in their late teens or in their twenties) getting arrested or shot include random pictures of when they were a little kid?

the media want to go out of their way to show them as innocent. not the monsters they turned into later in life, like 15.`

just another case of selling while black.
They set it up via email. Assuming his email address isn't Scaryblackdude21@killwhitey.com, I don't see how he was racially profiled. As outrages go, seems like a reach to me.

Edit: I should perhaps mention that I have been in his shoes. I once got pulled over and had to get out and lie on the ground while shotguns were pointed at me. All I ever got was "we're looking for somebody." Yeah, kinda figured that part out all on my own, dude.

but the question is would they have approached him so aggressively if he was asian, hispanic or caucasian? I'm leaning toward probably not.

I know right.. what kind of monster tries to sell their own laptop? fucking savages... using craigslist to sell their property.
