Guy scamming at gas station?

Some random guy walks up to me at the gas station right after I finish filling up and he tells me this story about how none of his credit cards work and he has no cash and asks me for five bucks so he can get some gas. The guy seemed shady and I think he was scamming because right after I said I didn't have any cash he went right on to the girl at the next pump. This ever happen to you before?

Happen to me once, gave the guy 5 bucks. He said he was lost and didn't have money for gas. Next week, same guy approach me, I told him how can you get lost twice and run out of gas at the same spot. He just walk away.

i had a guy approach me at a popeyes on time. his story was the van he was transporting the high school softball team in broke some belt, and he needed 8 bucks to get it fixed. i politely declined.

about 2 months later the same guy with the same story approached me in the waiting room at pepboys while i was getting some shocks replaced. i said, "didnt you already try this same thing with me a few weeks ago?" his reply, "i cant be expected to remember everyones face i ask for help." i said, "well then you cant expect it to work this time when it didnt work the first." he looked at me for a second, then left.

Now that I myself have done it .. i give ppl benefit of doubt ... i firgot my wallet at home ... and ran out of gas ... and it was in a small town with one gas station .. couldnt reach anyone on cellphone ... i was thinking of asking ppl for money but they were staring at me like (they prolly never seen a brown man before) ... so i just stood at the gas station for like 30 minutes thinking ... then the attendent comes out and asks me whats wrong ... and i tell him .. and he lets me fill up 2 gal. ... of course i came back and paid him ... i was driving a bright red Z3 ... I dont know how much that was a factor ...

Five bucks! Inflation must be high. It was 50c in Oakland/Berkeley when I lived there.

I heard this story a lot when I lived in Champaign. There was always someone who needed to get back to Rantoul and ran out of gas at the gas station. I had a can of gas in the back of my truck, but no one ever seemed to want the gas; they wanted the money.

Since moving to California, I've heard the story only once at a gas station near LAX.

Yeah, I get the same thing. I used to own a food route and I was coming off a freeway exit and the guy had the "Will Blow You for Food" sign up. I ask him if he wants something to eat and he says"Nah,ya got any money?" Typical.
