Guy just down the road shot a pelican with a shotgun. Man, there was feathers everywhere and bits of pelican head. I think he hit the Pelican's skeleton, although I'm not sure.
Either way the Pelican is dead now. Except for the other Pelican who got away. What a mess, someone just called the cops and they arrested the guy.

He's claiming the Pelican was flying too low and destroying his TV reception. He says they have Pelican nests on their roof.

Was that guy wrong to shoot that Pelican?

i think you are bs'ing us, but yes, its wrong to shoot a pelican. They are not a 'game' bird and therefore its illegal to kill them, just like it is illegal to kill cats, dogs, horses, etc....

Some species of Pelicans are on the endangered species list. Anyways, pelicans are cool, thy fly with thier wingtips about 1" off the water, and when a wave comes by, the whole formation of birds will rise up with the wave, keeping thier wingtips jsut above the water. Plus, they catch fish.

I don't think they affect TV reception, though.

You bet he was wrong. Better ways to get rid of nests than shooting the nesting birds; 'sides, the birds are protected for a reason.

Anyway, don't shoot what you aren't going to eat; that's what I always say.

What state are you in? I believe that Pelicans are a protected species.

If this is inside the city limits it is definitely against the law to discharge a firearm.

No, Little Skeletor, there is nothing wrong with shooting a pelican. They are vermin that cr@p all over your house and car. A significant percentage of them need to be exterminated in order to maintain equilibrium.

That's more or less what the guy said. He was high on something cause he kept saying: "I aimed a warning shot just above the bird, but the bird decided to commit suicide and flew into my line of fire"

The cops starting laughing at him and then someone else fired a shot from the guys back yard. Everyone is running around, no one is taking care of the Pelican.

I can see all this from my bedroom window. Sometimes my TV goes screwy, hopefully it'll not happen again.

:D guess we know who's never been to the beach, they are the big birds you see with the big beaks that they hold fish in, like the bird in the little mermaid.

No offense buddy but that is just a really stupid question. Of course he was wrong to shoot a pelican for no reason other than his being a ruthless moron.

Unless an animal is a threat to you or is needed for food then there is no good reason to kill them. How is it that so many people think that animals lives are disposable, it makes me sick.

I am no vegetarian or PETA activist but I see a lot of animal stupidity going on, I mean people just think animals are here specifically for their amusement. I'd like to see some people treated the way they treat some animals, now that would be funny.

I would assume the police took him in for a mental evaluation after his statement that the pelican was interfering with his TV reception.

I let my cats and dogs and horses kill and eat each other all the time =0

If it is illegal to "kill" cats/dogs/horses, why are billions (and billions) of then euthanized every day?

according to what he said, he never got the chance to NOT stay around for more SINCE he decided to commit suicide and fly right into the warning shot

Yeah, perhaps the TV signals the bird was blocking interfered with its thought patterns and made it commit suicide.

One fine afternoon my friend and I were driving down a nice country lane. We came to an abrupt stop when a dog was standing in the middle of the road. We honked and the stupid thing refused to move. It sniffed quietly for about a minute, but then the dog walked off the road and up the embankment. We continued on. Just then the dog must have decided to commit suicide because it jumped straight off the embankment and under the back wheel of my friends blazer. It was a terrible thing, but hilarious at the same time. What a damn stupid dog.
